Driving hundreds of miles without a cold start sure helps the mileage. That's how my '78 300cd was able to get 28MPG on the highway coming back to Oregon from Southern Kalifornia. It never got mileage that good ever again. That was before I learned how to adjust valves, and I didn't own it
