Re: [MBZ] Left rear subframe mount rebuilt
Thanks. Anything’s possible but it obviously takes a lot of rust for the rear subframe mount to collapse from what I’ve seen. Excellent! Inspiring work. My blue 95 sedan has rust issues, and recently has weird rear suspension behavior, now I'm wondering if a rear subframe mount has broken loose. Re: [MBZ] Left rear subframe mount rebuilt
I didn’t remove the old mount or the subframe. I cut out the rusted metal then thoroughly de-rusted the remainder - including inside the mount cavity with multiple applications of naval jelly over a period of several days. The remaining in tact mount (2 out of four walls) and thick baseplate was surprisingly strong enough to not collapse. I then welded 16 gauge sheet metal over the missing sections. I used weld through primer on the inside and back surfaces of the mount and new metal. I will spray the inside of the cavity with fluid film and replace the perished body cavity plugs with new ones once it’s all painted. How did you locate the new mount in the identical spot? Did you make some kind of rig to measure the old mount location so you could identify new position?
