i just unscrewed the switch from the back of the lock. three screws and
yer done! No need to unplug the plug. DON"T CUT THE WIRES

I had to repair a 124 where some moron had done that. Doing so can
leave you F.O.R.D.

Worst case, cut the lock in half with a cutoff wheel!

You have to be able to turn the key to release the big plug off the
back. You are probably going to have to break the connector or cut the
wires and splice in the connector from the other car which will be a
big pain on the ass.

Or try the "Wilton Procedure" to vibrate the key in the lock with hopes
of getting it to turn one last time.

You have to have the switch in the 1 position (Run) for the plug to pull
out.

Well I got the steering lock out steering colum. I ground the locking
pin until the assembly came out since I couldn't get the key to turn.
Semi good news is that the same lock mechanism is in my dead 87 "190
2.5 Turbo diesel.

Question should I be able to pull the connector plug on the end of the
ignition switch with the tumbler still in place or will I have to
start cutting.

The plan is to use the steering lock and tumbler from the 190 and get
a matching tumbler for the E300D, so I do not have to dig into and
change all the locks over!

+1 for what Wilton says.IF you can get the old tumbler out, you can
turn the switch with a large flat screwdriver as Kaleb said. You can
drive it that way untili your new tumbler comes in. You have to order
the tumbler from MB. They will want to see a copy of your title or
registration, DL etc. before they will order the key and tumbler.

2016-10-13 Thread Mitch Haley via Mercedes

Should have pullled it while you could still turn it. Try giggling it while
turning to see if you can get it to move one last time to pull it out then use
a screw driver to start it until the new one comes in
