Check out eDataRack.com - I know of several people who have them as their
domain host.

no, that's not an option. Do not have a dedicated ISP at home.

Yea ... Apache running on Linux maybe? It is a no-brainer (as
demonstrated

by my putting up pages).

Anyone have experience/suggestions for other sites to look at? TIA all,

Oh, that's right -- you are on dial-up so that wouldn't work.

Naw, do as I do. Set up a Linux server and use a domain name from dyndns.org.
Works fine.

Such as: http://don.homelinux.net/debdon/

If you want to roll your own, Mandrake makes a nice dedicated email server,
but you would have to have a "real" IP address from your ISP for it, and
that would likely cost more than Nocster or some other virtual linux hosting.

My son's friend has a business doing IT and hosting, can make you a good
deal -- he resells some big outfit's services, so it is not flybynight
(though it does work at night). I use a $96/yr hoster, good service,
was recommended by a lister a year or two ago. iPowerWeb is the name.
My son's friend said he could beat their deal.

2006-01-19 Thread John M McIntosh

I use pair.com

mostly since they got very high ratings historically for uptime.
http://uptime.netcraft.com/perf/reports/Hosters

service is good, either 24 hour turn around, or emergency up to the
second turn around on support questions.
For new accounts look about on their site for deals, I think when I
signed up for a year fleeing another un-named ISP I got service for
the year for $160

http://www.pair.com/services/compare.html/

Mind at the moment I forward my mail onto gmail because it seems to
have the best logic for spamming checking.
