Re: [MBZ] OT - I-5 State of Washington bridge - gone
We are having a new floating bridge built to replace the 50 year old one that is over burdened. To help pay for it, tolls have been instituted. Old bridge is still there. It used to be a clogged artery all day long. With the toll, you can zip across with minimal traffic. Sadly, the tolling was based on the previous usage, so having 30% of the traffic it used to allow sort of defeated the tolling as revenue idea. Engineers forgot to think through how to cast concrete floatation sections, and supervisors were lacking oversight attempts. They did specify that it be as inexpensive as could be, but never bothered to see the effects of this money saving desire. Many of the things that got cast turn out to be shite, with micro fractures that will grow to tragic failures. The ones that have been floated out to the construction area are about as useful as a screen door on a submarine. No amount of shoe goo is keeping them dry inside. Poor engineering has resulted in $100 million remedy situation. Only found three scape goats to fire. clay On May 27, 2013, at 10:38 AM, Michael Canfield wrote: The supervisors are off milking the job hiding somewhere. I think Clay's point may have been that engineer mistake = accident and everything else is negligence. Re: [MBZ] OT - I-5 State of Washington bridge - gone
All fo the bridge incidents here are unfortunate accidents. Build a massive new bridge and then forget to seal up the holes on the old on so that in a bit of blustery weather the pontoons fill and the floating bridge sinks to the bottom of the lake? There is a reason for the bridge on Hood Canal, and it has little to do with the civilians. The Boomers need a way to sneak into base and having that bridge is a great way to be stealthy. It would be rude to make the poor boys (and now girls) who spent six months under sea have to travel the long way around to get to any sort of civilization clay On May 26, 2013, at 3:47 PM, Brian Toscano wrote: The Hood Canal Bridge is an unfortunate accident (as was Galloping Gertie). Would you have not built the bridge in the first place and let people take US 101 around? That seems like the best option to me. Hard to justify that kind of expense for the Olympic Peninsula which is low in population and opportunity even with the bridge. See - Galloping Gertie, Hood Canal Bridge, I-90 floating bridge. The socialist agenda wants more cash spent on publishing goobermint papers in 40 tongues of the illegal migrant, or to feed and house the miscreant youth of the illegals, crack babies, liberal arts graduates, organic pharma and agribusiness. Build a park instead of making the neighborhood safer, then have to hire armed patrols to wander the place once the number of assaults explodes in the park, along with illicit drug and sexual activities taking place in front of the children clay On May 26, 2013, at 10:00 AM, Andrew Strasfogel wrote: Repairing the people's infrastructure with your tax dollars is as socialistic a concept as they come.
