See if your local landfill makes compost from yard and food waste. That stuff
is like gold for amending bad soil.

My neigbbour who was an agricultural technician until retirement
recently, says that the only thing you use sand for is to make mortar.

Raised beds and forget tilling. Some of us are too old to be bending down
to the ground all time, plus it's easier to maintain, little to no weeding,
etc.
