Copper propane line?
Around here the installer buries it with a spade, chops through the sod,
wiggles the spade a bit to make room, then chops the spade in 8" farther down
the path...
In that case, the line will be 6-8" deep and in a pretty straight line from the
tank to the building, if the two ends of the bury are line of sight to each
other.

Mitch.

Any conductive substance. So the head of the detector only
detects when it's moving. Iron is high resistance, so it is a
"low" reading. Copper and silver are low resistance, so they have
a "high" reading.

Theres a bunch of Youtubers in Europe that look for WWII and as you say they
find little bits of corroded metal and get all excited. Sometimes I think
they've got to be pulling my leg, it'll be a washer or bushing or something and
the guy is convinced its part of a Tiger tank or something.
I've only watched a couple videos, can't get that excited about it...

They use one on “the curse of oak island”. Pretty fascinating show. They found
a lead cross on the beach on a recent episode. Might be a Templar cross or
possibly way older-like Phoenician!

My dad has been telling me for the last coupla years to go buy one for
birthday/Christmas/whatever and he will cover it, I saw him over the
weekend and he mentioned it again, and my cousin's husband said he had
one and found various War of Northern Aggression artifacts he had found
doing what your guy did. There was at least one fairly significant
skirmish that happened right along my vast estate, and I think some
other running battles at different times too. My neighbor has various
stuff he has found in the fields while farming, so there is stuff around
here.

It looks like there are some cheap ones, some middle range, and some
fairly expensive units, with relative performance consistent with
price. So it is like everything else...

And the more expensive ones have waterproof thingies on the end, which
would be kinda fun at the beach and in the marsh around the manse if I
want to slog through that at anything other than dead low tide.

Re: [MBZ] OT Metal detectors

2017-03-06 Thread archer75--- via Mercedes
I had one once but it was fairly low powered. Beaches were (are?) the most
popular search areas here in Florida. If the island where you live was once a
beach (many of them were) there could be something there. If you dig down two
or 3 feet or more and find nothing but sandy soil, it possibly was a beach at
one time.
I've read that pirates, and ships being pursued by pirates, would hurriedly
bury their treasure on beaches with the intention of returning after they
escaped their pursuers. Several small fortunes have been found there but most
areas have been heavily searched since the advent of metal detectors.

One early morning on a beach a guy with a detector told me he had found rings,
jewelry, and coins, but that his main reason for searching was that it gave him
something to do until the bars opened. You have to admire such honesty.

Here is a website that might be informative:

Hi Rick,
I bought one from Harbor Freight for ~$60 - it has all kinds of features and
the different tones tell what kind of material is likely is.

Good luck - it should be something he gets lot of use out of -- maybe he
will find some meteorite materials? they sell for big money sometimes -

 Hi All,
My youngest son wants a metal detector for his birthday. He is gonna be
 12. I would like something light and moderately priced ($200). Any
 suggestions?

What is he looking for? Treasure? Lost airplanes? Something to
wander the beach with and eventually just toss in a dark corner of
the closet?
