How do you know if a caliper can be rebuilt?
I took off the offending caliper and fluid appears to be running from around
one of the pistons.

Also...
what works to get brake fluid off of everything ot leaked onto down there?

Thanks...it looks like my Saturday has been planned out for me by the MB

Well now...after having sat 48 hours or so, after having braked wicked
hard to miss the 18 wheeler, I go out this morning and there is a puddle
of brake fluid under the passenger rear wheel and a nice rivulet of fluid
flowing towards the door...wrinkling up the garage floor coating (which
was suppose to be impervious to brake fliud).

Get i better get the thing up on the stands and check 'er out.

I replaced the lines last year. Suppose it's caliper rebuild time?

Jim answered my question:

How do you know if a caliper can be rebuilt?

with

You take it apart. If it isn't broken (one of mine was) or rusty,
and you can get the kit for it, it's easy.

SO..if this one pooped out after the wicked hard braking, could the others
be far behind?

Should I just rebuild them all?

That may be a good idea. It's not that much money.

buy the kit from rusty, pull the pistons out, put new seal ring in, and
dust shield, put pistons back in. That easy. If they are seized just
get another caliper.

You disassemble it and if the surfaces of the bores and pistons are
not deeply pitted, it is rebuilable. I just did all four on my 201, the

Probably.

At very least, you should do them in pairs, to maintain even braking.
But it's probably best to do them all. My car has new rear calipers and
older front ones, and I'm convinced this is causing a brake balance
problem. I get early lockup on the rears on wet surfaces.
