After I got a couple pair of Jefferson seconds ($495 shoes) for $150/pr after 
all discounts (they were in the shoe bank tent sale for $199 and I had some 
American Express $50 off on $200 purchase offers), I wondered just how I was 
going to ever save money by having non-cordovan shoes recrafted.

I’m a big time shoe snob- I think I got it from my dad. He always had fine 
shoes and one of my chores was polishing them. My gf and other stylish female 
friends have told me that their first impressions of a guy are based on the 
shoes that he wears. So, unless I’m doing manual labor (which is most of the 
time nowadays), I will not dare to wear ugly shoes!

I have only one pair of AE and they are lace ups made from cordovan leather - 
tough as hell. Most others are Italian.

Meh.  You can get seconds at the Shoe Bank all day long for less.  And I’ve 
always tried to figure out who wears monk strap dress shoes?  Ugh.
