No sealant. There is a rubber seal that is used that seals perfectly without sealant. The pan has places formed into the edges that make it seal properly and will distort if you overtighten. Do you normally use some form of sealant on the pan to transmission surfaces as well? Or locktite? 7 or 8 Nm sounds sort of like not much more than finger tight.
