Well, here's one non-partisan truth: The Government can't give anything to
anybody without first taking it from someone else (and taking a cut along the

I'm not sure "truthful information" really exists anymore. I read both sides
and figure they're both lying about 50%. The Dems say the economy is plugging
along swimmingly and with more government intervention we'll have a utopia. The
Republicans say everything sucks and until every last liberal is shot and
buried and companies are allowed to run roughshod over everything God will
continue to bring his wrath down upon us.
I take from that if we basically leave things alone it'll probably be alright.

Not true, and not a valid accounting of unemployment. The books have been
cooked.

Drive down any main street in any town in America today and count the
closed businesses.

The cumulative effect is jobs lost in every one of them, not replaced by
new industry.

"Creative reporting" to get re-elected ... facts are facts.. jobs are
scarce, hours worked are down, if you have one, manufacturing orders are
flat lined, so new hires to fill future orders are flat lined..

Doesn't fly...

Re: [MBZ] Why your junker ain't worth as much now

2015-09-08 Thread Curt Raymond via Mercedes
I don't hold that against Obama, its been the policy for a long time. I can't
remember when it started though. I'm thinking during the New Deal so under
FDR's watch, but I can't be sure of that.
Not so much Obama but Nancy P and her crowd would just pay people who weren't
working because "the government can take care of you".
Read the Honor Harrington series by David Webber, its a classic "Space Opera"
and one of the governments in it is clearly a "Social Democracy" with a rabble
of people on the basic living wage (ie welfare) and the economy of the place
relies on expansion and taxation of an increasingly small number of people
actually willing to work. So they invade "The kingdom" (a constitutional
monarchy) to "release the riches of the people" etc...The first couple books
are great, lots of space battles and action. As they go on the start to drag. I
nearly quit in book 8 because its all boring exposition about this or that
political maneuver, apparently book 9 is worse so I haven't tried it...

It's Obama's fault that people have to work to make a living.

Re: [MBZ] Why your junker ain't worth as much now

2015-09-08 Thread Curt Raymond via Mercedes
The price of scrap metals is also down because of overproduction of raw
materials. There are several new mines in Australia that MUST produce to pay
the creditors, normally a mine would shut down in view of the low commodity
price but they can't.
Good news is that the influx of new material will result in better quality
metals for awhile. Using all scrap gradually degrades production...

Sorry Andrew.. you are using "co-mingled logic"..

Inflation is a stand alone issue.

Scrap prices are a stand alone issue.

Raw material demand drives scrap price far more than dollar value. Same for
crude oil, and other commodities.

When American economy thrives, Americans consume more than any other
country in the world, per capita, and pay for it because we are all "rich"
by comparison. Those countries buy raw materials and convert them to
finished goods with cheap labor and lack of EPA style government
intervention, for sale to their number one customer, USA.

Sales are flat lined, future orders are flat lined, and thus, production at
these "raw product buyer" countries is flat lined.  China, when USA economy
was booming pre 2008, was paying over $300 per ton of scrap steel and
couldn't get enough to fill manufacturing orders in the que.. Now... very
low demand due to low sales of finished goods.. because Americans are not
buying..

When America stops buying, other countries stop producing, their workers
stop working, and paying taxes, feeding their families.

Mr. Obama, whom you give reference to, has done nothing visible to improve
Americas economy in the past 6 1/2 years except borrow more and spend on
things like Solandra, and bank bailouts, which rewarded bad business
practice. So, by my rules, he has not been the "change we've been hoping
for". Your personal mileage may vary.

Diesel price here is now $2.19 per gallon... so I may start driving more..
which will drive demand up, and ultimately, the price of crude..
Eventually, I will wear out a part on the Mercedes, need a new one, someone
in China will take the order, along with others, buy some scrap, smelt it
down, make new parts, and ship one to me...

Respectfully,

Grant...

Your view doesn't fly either, drive around and look at the "help wanted"
signs. The businesses that went out of main street were the ones too stupid to
realize that customer service was going to save the day. Wal-Mart and Home
Depot can't match my local hardware store and lumber yard. I go there because
they know me and they'll help me. In fact I walk out of Home Depot in
frustration more than I buy something, I don't even know why I try to go there
other than to look at things that I end up buying locally or online. Their
customer service sucks.
The problem is the people that won't take jobs that are "beneath them" which is
where traditionally the illegal alien has come in. A friend of mine runs a fish
farm where they raise fish for fancy restaurants, he says they can't keep staff
and have a hard time finding anybody that really wants to work.
Mike Rowe has an excellent Facebook feed where he talks about the entitlement
culture and how young people seem to all think they're going to be CEO in 2
years...
