Re: [MBZ] dog food -- very off topic (must reading for dick van pattenfans)

2008-06-05 Thread E M
Can anyone suggest a really qood quality dry and wet brand that is available
in Canada? All my cats have done very well over the years, most living into
late teens, early twenties, on a mixture of a few different so called good
quality dry foods, free fed, and then wet food a couple of times a day,
morning, late evening. Wet food is a mixture of brands, but I'm becoming
more and more concerned about all the junk in pet food. I just want a good
quality of food, make with good stuff. I'm not overly concerned with the
price, but don't want to pay double, for the same old crap that has been
branded and marketed to the hills.

Thanks for you suggestions.

when i first got a dog, she was eating beneful, so i used to buy her
beneful. i tasted it and it was horrible, but i figured, hey, i'm not a
dog! then i learned what is in crap food like beneful -- road kill, cats
put to sleep at the vet (complete with plastic bag!), the lowest quality
undigestable fillers, etc. now i know many of you are cheap and selfish
and happily feed this crap to your beloved pets, but, as i've often stated
on other matters, i'm not playing this game.

the problem with quality food is that it is expensive, a 33lb bag costing a
little over $50, which really makes you just want to buy the old roy and
 not
think about what you are feeding. however, i've noticed that i can
sometimes find nice specials on dick van patten's high quality food. i
picked up 40lbs today for $32 to go along with the usual innova, which is a
real bargain for stuff of this quality. once again, you can always count
 on
 dick to save the day!

Ed,

I don't know where you are in Canada, but my local pet store at Yonge
Eglinton in Toronto carried the Dick Van Patten cat food in both wet
and dry.

The big anonymous stores like PetSmart(?) might not have it but the
independents should.

I'll have to walk by there to get the name but it's on the east side
of Yonge south of Eglinton. It's acroos the road from the St Louis

I'll get the name and number for you later this morning, ok?

As for DVP, Hursty you're not quite on the mark there. Lewis was
considered a comic genius in France, whereas Canadians actually have a

if he darkened our borders. We don't like wishy-washy nancy boys!

Ed, I can highly recommend Nutro cat food. I used to feed it to all
my cats until one of them got picky and decided she didn't like it.
But it is extremely high quality, all meat, no byproducts or fillers,
etc. There is a dealer locator page here:
http://www.nutroproducts.com/buy.html

My picky cat is a Norwegian Forest Cat mix (very long thick coat like
a Main Coon). When I got her from the humane society a year ago her
fur was terribly greasy and matted, had to be shaved off completely.
It grew back fine and silky and she's had very few mats since---I
attribute that in part to good quality food.

Good luck with yours.
