I used an 8 sub in a ported tube and it seemed sufficient. For frequencies below what that will handle I think you're putting more energy into vibrating parts of the car than you are into audible sound, because of the physics of a small space like a car interior. Now, I recently bought a little convertible as a fun car, and I've got some thinking to do when it comes to stereo equipment for that. A ragtop is a whole 'nother ball of wax.

People think I'm joking when I say I originally put a subwoofer in my car to listen to Bach organ works. It's just not the same when you can't feel those pedal tones. You too?! Mine, unfortunately, isn't big enough really. According to my Sheffield test disc, I only pick up about one octave (or maybe a bit less) with it. But in an SL you're pretty limited if you don't want to compromise what little storage there is to begin with. -- Jim
