I homeschool my 8 year old and I've been teaching him ( while re learning myself ) german. the childrens books are an easy way to start and help to get you thinking in german, while the adult stuff has you constantly trying to transpose thought and sentence form. The german cartoons are great for learning too ( nothing like seeing old cartoons from the 40's dubbed into german ) and they are available cheap on ebay.Does the same thing as those overpriced Muzzy programs ( which nobody thinks are worth the money ) they advertise. -Robert Christopher McCann wrote: Have reached the practical limit of teaching myself German, so I've hired a tutor. Not absolutely sure where it originates, but the first time that I ever saw the reference was in the series of books about Rumpole of the Bailey. A series about a rumpled British Barrister and his somewhat pathetic existence. He referred to his wife as She Who Must Be Obeyed. There was a television series as well but the books were much better. My uncertainty was really whether Mortimer (couldn't recall his name)invented the description or whether he just used it to his advantage. It appears that he heard it used by some old barrister and thought it funny enough to use for Rumpole.
