Re: [Merkaartor] Merkaartor development

2014-12-18 Thread Ladislav Laska
Thanks for the support!

I've already contacted Chris about the maintainership, and he agrees. I'm
working on taking the website back up, and have contacted the osm admins for
the
openstreetmap projects at github, as I'd like to move it there to use github's
issue tracking.

In the meantime, I pushed out qt5 branch on my private repo [1]. It took some
doing, but now Merkaartor compiles against qt5 with only minor loss (the
qtstyle
plugins). It's work in progress and not really tested. If you feel adventurous,
please try it out and report bugs (to my email, until I get github tracking up).

I will be merging fixes from other forks in the next few days, there are at
least those with pull request at gitorious.

Hi Ladislav.

If you are interested in hacking maintaining Merkaartor, I think you
will make many people happy.

Since no one else has actually taken this role you are more than
welcome. You can host the source code where you want github, krakanos,
whatever suits you best.

If you intend to work on it, I think it will help to request other
clone owners to remove their repos and point to the new official
source repo. After that make an announcement about the new source
repository. And declare yourself as the maintainer. I believe most of
this list will support you in doing this.

 Hi!

I've been using Merkaartor for some time now, and wanted to use the jsom-like
links from osmose. Unfortunately, there does not seem to be any development
 for
some time now, and the official site is down. Are there any news? I've found
some repos on github, really outdated page on launchpad, but nothing new. Is
 the
 upstream dead?

Anyway, since it's working, I've added the feature for myself, you can find my
 forked tree here:

I'd be happy to merge these changes into upstream, if there is any!

indeed! Also i think the most important thing is to have a maintainer who is
able to handle pull requests, I could imagine that a lot of code would come from
the community if there would be a proper place to ship it to.

Hope to see some development again really soon!

Cheers,

Bernd

2014-12-13 Thread Ladislav Laska
Thanks for your answers!

I've been tinkering with merkaartor for the last few days and I must say, it is
nicely written. I have written custom tool/Interaction for it, and possibly
fixed a long standing crash (not sure yet, needs more testing).

I will let Chris know I would be glad to maintain the Merkaartor, although I
won't have time to do anything big in the following months, only small features
and possible bugfixes.

Afaik it is. See the discussion[0] from March 2013 where Chris Browet
  asked for a new maintainer.

Would be great if someone with the required knowledge could take over as
maintainer. Merkaartor was/is a really nice editor and has a few nice
features, I still miss in JOSM.
