I am currently working on BSP refresh for Variscite VARSOM iMX6.
Patches to meta-freescale-3rdparty will be sent soon (see [1]) and
when brave enough I'll give linux mainline a try - but currently I am

This is not related to the BSP but a behavior setting. If you really
want to enable it, do it inside the fsl distro.

Which upstreaming are you talking about? weston-imx or meta-freescale?
I understand that not all the components are in meta-freescale yet but
