It also says: If you are lucky enough to find a meteorite just
after impact, do not pick it up -- parts of it are likely to be
Hi list,
My wife and I watched the skies from the tip of Conimicut Point on
Narragansett Bay. Counted 30 in the 45 minute time frame we had to work
with from 5:00 to 5:45 am eastern. One orange, most faint. Moon was
behind clouds behind us. Not as good as last year here.
Best wishes,
Charlie
Hullo,
Sorry for being so blatantly non-contributory to the List and only plugging

Saw 116 this morning here in NJ.
As I was watching the International Space Station make a 45 degree
elevation pass, one nice orange tailed meteor went about a thumbs width
next to it . Neat sight.

The meteors were quite nice here. We had scattered high, thin clouds,
limiting magnitude around 4 outside my house in the Washington suburbs.
Between 4 and 5 am local time I saw about 50, including one head-on,
something I've never seen before.
Between 5 and 5:30 the rate increased to around
Just about thawed-out now after a late night/early morning Leonid Watch...
Have to say the display was rather disappointing. Ironically, we had almost clear skies here in usually-cloudy Cumbria, for the whole of the night, so two friends and I set up camp on a quiet country lane with clear
Hi all, steve arnold here. I normally get up at 6 am, but today, I got up at 4 am. I got up and saw a big ol' full moon. So I said to myself, not good for viewing. Then I remembered, we are opposite of the moon, so I can go to the "DARK SIDE OF THE HOUSE". So I went and got my 8 in. celestron
I also did the early alarm thing, getting up at 4 am CST. The temperature was
around freezing, but with not a cloud in the sky. The show started slowly,
with one every few minutes. By 4:30, the rate had picked up to several a
minute and peaked around 4:45 when 15+ per minute were visible.
Set the alarm for 2:45 and headed outside with a big mug of hot chocolate at
03:00 (CST). I had set up my scope earlier that evening to do some Saturn
and Jupiter observing since I was going to be outside at this ungodly hour,
anyway.
I settled in with the moon at my back, and in about 5

Dazzling Display: Early Results of the Leonid Meteor Shower
By Robert Roy Britt

PHILADELPHIA - Early this cold November morning the Leonid meteor shower
wowed skywatchers as tiny bits of comet debris streaked in
I stepped out this morning around 5:30 am to catch the show. Despite the full moon in the West I saw several Leonid's. Most came one after the other and at times 3 to 4 at the same time! Most also left an impressive train behind!
Was yet another great show in my opinion!!
Best regards-
Michael
My wife had difficulty waking me up for work this
morning, after I had stayed up to 4:30AM observing the
Leonids, so she turned on the KTLA - Ch5 - Morning
News. She knows that I can't stand that program in
the morning, but she figured that it would wake me up.

Does anyone knows who publishes

Hi Andre,
The author of this book is Harry Y. McSween Jr. and an excellent book if I do say so
myself. Well worth the reading time. All my best and hope you can buy a copy.

Dear List Members:
Sorry, for the late reply. I observed 164 meteors from 4:30am to 6:00am from Longboat Key (Sarasota) Florida. I was on the beach, facing east, with the moon behind me. Temperature was "cold" by Florida standards- a whopping 54 F. Perfectly clear skies since a high pressure
Completely clouded out here south and a bit east of Pittsburgh. High thin
clouds rolled in about 6 pm Monday evening and stayed that way until after 5
am. Between 5:30 am and 6:30 am, there were some very small breaks in the
clouds and I saw two meteor streaks - with one being a sporadic!

Hi Jeff,
I think we saw the same head on Leonid as I am in Fairfax county
alsomine was in Leo proper and winked on and off. I counted 253 Leonids
from 0430 to 0605, under clear skies and 28 deg F, with approximately 60%
sky coverage and a LM of about 4.0. I saw 5 at once and several other

Hello List,
Thanks to everyone for posting their observations.
I've enjoyed reading them all. Looks like it was about
the same here as most others are reporting, including:
1. a short 10-15 minute burst starting at ~0440 with a
max of 3-4 simutaneously a few times.
2. only a few

Everyone is telling there Leonids story so I thought I'd add mine:
First meteors I ever remember seeing was the 1966 Leonids at Borego Springs when I was 11y. I was camping with my Dad and we just got lucky. For years to come I thought that this is whata typicalshower would be like and in later
Hello Andre,
Cambridge Univ. Press is the publisher of the paperback edition. You can get
a copy at Amazon.com for $30.00 (new) or a bit less for a used copy. I agree
with Al; it's certainly worthwhile to have a copy.
Hope this helps,
Frank
