Hello Pierre-Marie,
some years ago I have written a booklet on the Pribram, Lost City or Innisfree falls,
describing the reduction procedure how to calculate the meteoroid orbit from the
fireball trajectory. It's written in German, but anyhow you will be mostly interested
in the formulas I guess.
Adam and List,
That is the best post I have seen since I've been on the list. That post
makes me want to collect. Far better than all the bitching that has been
going on!
Just my opinion,

Hi,
This is a great discussion, very interesting.
As was brought up by me and others last time round, it's all very well
having information about the origins and history of a piece, but it just
never gets passed on!!!
I still think a lot of the problems would be solved if we had a standard
Hello All,
Back in July, there were posts that touched base on numbering and organizing
personal collections. At the time, I didn't have enough meteorites that
would require the use of numbers. Well, that has changed.
A number of ideas were presented and I was hoping to get a few more. Also

I've bought Lunar slices from well respected dealers that arrived in
nothing more than a small plastic bag, with not even the number written
on, that's simply an appalling
I meant SAU 119, not 001

We have received reports of a fireball and airburst over the
Northamptonshire/Buckinghamshire/Bedfordshire area this morning
(~06.30am BST). The approximate trajectory was in a south-east
direction.
Has anyone else in the UK meteorite community heard anything about this
or witnessed the event?

I have written my own Access application to keep records of my
meteorites. They are numbered in order of their aquisition, with a
prefix for my collection.
A part of them is on exhibition, a part is stored away. Those pieces
stored away are put into zipbags with the inventory number, the name
Hi Vic,
Iv'e not heard anything yet, but there had been two sonic booms heard
over Wales UK reported earlier this week. They are flight testing the
Eurofighter typhoon aircraft...
But this fireball sighting sounds like a new one!

I found the discussion about the naming of NWAs quite good, and would
hardly call it bitching. This is one of the hot topics in
meteorites today. We all feel like Adam does, otherwise we wouldnt be
here and be so passionite about our opinions.

Hi All,
There is one witness report (a good one) so far here in Ireland. I
heard him being interviewed on the radio this morning at 9:30
(approx) am. He gave a detailed eye witness report from his location
in Dublin. He also gave the time of 6:30 am for the fireball.

Dear List Members,
We have polished a new slice of Tanezrouft 062 (L5-W2), which absolutely

Hello All,
When I saw Frederic's and Christophe's TAN 062 pics (beautiful pics,
by the way), I was instantly reminded of a gorgeous 8.79 gr Tanezrouft
slice I purchased in Ensisheim from Jean-Luc Parodi. It does look very
much like TAN 062 but will be classified as an LL5, S2, W2 in Met.Bull.
Well put Bernd,
I have a simpler approach to my feelings about meteorite documentation, history,
classification or not, etc., and that is that all meteorites are from outer space, and
their time and associated pedigree here on earth is of minor relevance when compared
to their universal
Hi Dieter,
I resisted replying to Pierre-Marie's question for the very reason that
there is no turn-key solution to determination of the pre-Earth-encounter
orbit based on visual observations, video, photographs, and/or recovered
meteorite coordinates. Every case is unique since the type and

Hello Dieter,
Not if you use my spreadsheet. ;-)
If you have a radiant and speed (agreed: that is the tough part!) it does give
you an orbit in a minute or so. The most

According to the same Catalogue that Sterling quoted, Marv Kilgore has the

to be courious, is that there are larger masses in other collections.
And according to Dave Wier, Vermillion may be more confidently

Hi, Everybody,
I'm forwarding this explanation for the Vermillion meteorite, from an
authoritive source. It was a meteorite, sure enough, just didn't fall in
Indiana! Obviously, someone must have drug a Canyon Diablo back to Indiana.
Was it an intentional fraud? Or did the story just fuzz up
