Goes back to the point I made months ago, we need an industry standard
record card (a sort of 'meteorite passport') particularly for the more
valuable pieces, that way valuable info is preserved...

Greetings. I know alot of List members have personal
collection sites, but I was just wondering if it was
possible to have a site where people can list thier
personal collections so that all of us can look and
enjoy? I know that I really admire such sites, and
thought that it might be easier

Hi Ken,
I know you didn't wish to argue the point however it is an interesting point
of view and maybe others may wish to comment.
I have seen ad's for slices, fragments etc., were it is quoted cut from

I want to introduce my new site to the meteorite community:
http://www.metsale.com
This is a meteorite auction site like ebay - but with some nice
advantages:
- This site is for meteorite auctions only (including books, software,
tools and storage items)
- Metsale allows swap offers to be made
This is my favorite, it gives topos, street maps, and best of all, aerial
photos!

Hi
I thought 'main mass' was already well defined? For years it's been the
largest single piece recovered from the fall site. And that's it.
If it gets cut then the main mass was cut - end of story.
if an even larger piece is found at the strewn field then that would
become the main mass. (Or
Dear List Members,
This weeks special is NWA2127, a very rare and almost unheard of L4, S2-4,

looked at this meteorite we thought we were looking at an achondrite. We
took a second slice and saw what appeared to be a

Dear List,
The good news is that dealers are aware of the piggybacking problems and the
ones who do not want to risk their reputations have corrected the situation.
There are still a few dealers engaging in this less-than-acceptable practice
because they refuse to listen or are too cheap or too
Adam, not to be a pain, but there is absolutely nothing rare or important
about an L4 S2-4 W1 meteorite. I have piles of common chondrites sitting in
my garage. So why the hupelah about this one:)

There was a large fireball over Colorado on Tuesday night at 20:45. Looks
like it started near Kiowa and ended over Deckers. The height ranged from
62km to 31km, and it was sparking and flaring over much of its path. The
velocity was low (15 km/s). I wouldn't be surprised if it was shedding

My advice to you, is if you hate some ones guts, keep it to yourself.
If you have something useful to say that is meteorite related, then
post it to the list.

Hello to the List and to Walter.
Shipping costs seem to be really expensive in Europe.
For example, sending a 1000g package from France to
USA costs 20 dollars (15 euros).
But asking $30 to $35 for Finland to USA seems a
little bit too much...
