Alien Rain G!!! Don't get me started!!
Last night on BBC 2 (uk) a program called Horizon was shown, it was all
about whether we are descended from aliens (i.e. panspermia). It
featured Prof Godfey Louis and Prof Chandra Wickramasinghe and the now
famous 'Red rain'.
I have to say I have
Hi, All,
Not Again?!
Alien Rain G!!!
Algae G!!!
Bat's blood?
Everything fits to the last detail!
It is clear from Geoffrey Louis's own
micrographs that only one variety of material
is present, that it is of only one geometric type, and
that is of an erythrocyte (a red blood cell),
Hi,
My problem with the bat blood theory is the bulk elemental composition
doesn't seem to match what you would expect for a bunch red blood
cells!? (Correct me if I'm wrong!) Certain elements are more abundant
than you would expect, like more Aluminum than Iron in red blood???
The theory they

Hello list,
There has never been a recorded fall or find of a meteorite from my home
state of Rhode Island. However, it was recently reported in our local
press that a stone meteorite was discovered during a still ongoing
archaeological excavation of the Newport Tower in Newport, R.I. This
Hi,

I have also just watched the Horizon program that Mr Mark Ford alluded to
and I totally agree. I emailed the BIMS list my following response:
..just watched it.
Wicky, despite having a PhD and very expereinced is still a remarkably
stupid and closed off man. Always thought

List,
Another one of my slightly off the wall auctions. In two hours a small CR2
slice and a slice of Dimmit to be sold together.
Dimmit is so ugly that I thought I would sweeten the auction with a really
pretty companion piece.
Hello list,
A list member has kindly pointed out that the
meteorite in question is indeed shown on the webpage I sent earlier,
documenting the archaeological dig at the Newport Tower.
Here are 2 photos, which can be found in the daily log entry for
10/18/06:
It's DIMMITT, dammit! Not DIMMIT.
(I'm not angry; I just couldn't resist the euphony...)
NHM Catalogue says: DIMMITT, Castro County, Texas, 1942.
At least 21 stones, totalling 13.5kg, were found; the fall may perhaps
be identical with Tulia ( q.v._ ), H.H. Nininger A.D. Nininger (1950).

Hi Tett and List,
To clear things up, I claimed it as coming from a distinct fall because
several meteorites were found in Castro County Texas. All meteorites come
from falls. I was trying to say it was different from other meteorites
found in the same vicinity, I never meant for anybody to
Hello everyone,
I doubt I'm the first one to notice that Steve is compiling his own mailing
list. It appears to consist of all met-list members.
Steve, please remove me from your list. I don't appreciate the spam.
Best wishes,

Re: Dimmitt
Another plentiful meteorite find from Castro County, Texas is Tulia (a).
Tulia (a) is officially classified as an H3-4 stone chondrite. However there
appears to have been a mix-up during classificatiopn with a specimen of
Dimmitt, and Tulia (a) is believed by most, myself included,
More on Dimmitt
I have a few pieces of Dimmitt. One is a fragment individual with a
Nininger number and a second collection number. Could someone identify the
second collection number for me? I've seen like collection numbers before.

Breccia, contains H5 and LL-group clasts, A.E. Rubin et al. (1981).
Or perhaps...or H3.7-5/LL? Maybe H3.7-5/LL5? How about H/LL3.7-5?
What do other list members think? Maybe if Rubin is reading this (?) he
could suggest a correct classiciation.
