I cannot help but wonder whether there is something
deeply ingrained in the human psyche which requires us
to believe there is life out there. This is a very
clever and compelling theory but ignores the effects
of millions of years in space subject to cosmic rays,
solar flares and so on.

Very nice Mark. Curiously my specimen is quite black within, but does show
heavy
weathering on the two outer edges of surface. Perhaps the dark black nature of
my
specimen is due to its small size and was cut from an area of deep black matrix.

Hello Bob,
That Thunda micro is quite unusual. What do you know of its composition? I
see it is
classified IIIAB, but is that silica surrounding the iron core? Graphite?
Nice pic. Can't wait to see more.

Kind of questionable auction, in my opinion. It looks like the seller is trying

Hi Darren,
Regarding the Villalbeto de la Pena meteorite paper, I thing the Seller
mirko66 was quite explicit about offering a paper. Also, having personally
dealt with the Seller, I am sure if someone bid up a paper to the value of
what the main mass would be worth (1.4 kg), he would not force

Hi Phil,
I don't mean to split hairs, but what is the difference between a thermal
alteration zone
and a fusion crust? Is there a difference? Is not a fusion crust a thermal
alteration
zone?

Hi Gary,
Nice discussion!
I think there is a big difference between fusion crust for irons and just
a thermally altered zone.
Fusion requires the crust to have been fused. At velocities over 3 km/s
the fusing material is the same material that is ablating, and as we know
very little remains
