Looks like a fine grained basalt covered with desert varnish. I see no fusion crust (flow lines etc.) and no regamaglypts. In the cut surface, no metal, no chondrules, and no heat affected zone. Mike Fowler Chicago OK, Anyone have an idea of what the heck this is?

Quite possibly could be a basalt of some sort. It's lighter than you would expect for a rock of this size though. I go through hundreds of meteorites per week, and this one just jumped out at me. This is why I ask... When I don't know the best thing is to ask someone who does. ;) Flow lines

Anyone have an idea of what the heck this is? my second guess is a fine grained granite from earth. I've seen granite just like this as xenoliths embedded in coarser grained granite behind the Mt. Helix Station in La Mesa up near the top of the cross. I believe Eric lives close to this
