Your explanation about the Apollo 14 photograph is correct. During the
Apollo 14 mission I was the Mission Science Advisor for the A-14 mission in the
Lunar Receiving Laboratory. I participated in the Apollo 14 crew
debriefings with Alan Sheppard, Ed Mitchell and Stuart Rousa
Regarding the discussions about picking up meteorites on the moon. The Apollo astronauts were specifically trained by NASA to NOT pick up meteorites on the moon. The classes were taught by Prof. Carleton Moore of the Center for Meteorite Studies, Arizona State University and Don Elston of the
