Bernd and List,

Happy New Year! Also just got up for breakfast which must be light as we
made pigs of ourselves last night. Too much food and drink but a wonderful
time.

Hopefully all here receive a nice fall in 2007.

Re: [meteorite-list] Baszkowka and Tazerzait

2007-01-01 Thread Dave Harris
You know what... I just googled the question myself and got the same
references - also a piece by David Weir! Sorry to have wasted the List's
efforts - I should make it my mantra of 2007 Google first, ask questions
second!

What is interesting is that I had noticed on my slice of Taz, are the micro
crystals in the vugs, again - I noticed that someone had tried to photograph
them. As a collector of terrestrial rocks as well, this fascinates me as to
whether xls formed in micro or milligravity would be different to their
terrestrial counterparts. I suspect that because the xls are so small (0
1mm or so) that they would retain the same euhedral shapes as equivalently
small xls on Earth.
The only xls I was able to identify were probably FeS (ie Troilite/Pyrite)
but I guess there might be more silicates...

Very interesting stuff!

Ford came to office and pardoned President Nixon.
I am sure many of the list members can remember where they were when

The above link is quite interesting as President Ford had quite a bit to

[meteorite-list] Tektite surface features

2007-01-01 Thread Bob King

Hello and a joyful New Year to all,
I have a number of tektites, mostly from Indochina, and have always wondered
how much their pitted and grooved surfaces were caused by actual heating,
cooling and aerodynamic effects, and how much by later erosion on the
ground. I've done some digging on the Web and from what I can read this
still seem to be a puzzle. The thing that gets me are the bubbly areas --
sometimes in linear formation -- right next to perfectly smooth surfaces.
Can anyone tell me what the latest scientific explanation is for these
surface features or point me to a current article or two? Thank you very
much.

now selling Park forest at a whopping
$48.00 per gram! This after the pile of crap

on eBay today and am highly amused (to
put it in a nice way) after the many emails
full of his spew about the max value
and how I was ripping people off by selling
Park Forest around ~$10-20 gram during the
fall.
 http://cgi.ebay.com/W0QQitemZ260066014372 WOW, I
guess you owe us all an
apology Matteo, it seems that I was actually
doing the people a great favor, since
you are now selling at over 4 times the
price, I gave them a great investment.
When the next fall occurs (like Moss no less) I
fully expect the same barrage of
hate-filled garbage from the loser who has
never found a fresh fall (except
several that fell in his friend's backyard and on
  the local beaches). Just a
little reminder that this guy is to full of

it and Mt. Tazerzait - also a really odd and porous meteorite!

 Any thoughts?

Yes, Baszkowka and Mt. Tazerzait have many similarities.
I remember that there was one or more PDFs with scientific informations

For the sake of, let´s call it, overall quality I would hope this could be
resolved as sort of a running gag in between the two participants (...both
have remarkable collections, but numbers obviously don´t count that way...)
after all those months and even years. If it is not, as may well be and, I
fear, very probably is the case, some people here may still find it
entertaining in a way, but then again entertainment needs new food, and if the
grand theatre is not properly fed and always remains to be the same old dumb
stuff, this after all gets pretty much boring for most of the audience.

Caspers all the way over all those long years on the list. I remember we had a
very special one a few years ago with a lovely wife (...wonder how well Cathie
now is!?).

Then again, back to meteorites, and have a good one! :-)

Happy New Year Alexander,

Unfortunately MF has taken to using language that is offensive to Native
Americans as
well as being directly pejorative of Russian capabilities. I am decended of
Native
Americans [1/2 ancestry] and so do recognize the damage and ridicule done to
those MF
sees as useful vehicles for his vituperative remarks. I will always take great
exception
to anyone who disparages my ancestry, as would, I am sure, yourself, especially

does not disparage others.

Consider me a meteorite of personal integrity flashing across the metlist skies.

Matteo,
I am NOT a meteorite dealer and rarely sell any
meteorites. I am a researcher and collector like many
of the fellow members on this list. Dealers need to
be held to standards of protocol on classification
before making claims of unique, rare, extremely rare.
Please provide analysis or evidence of analysis if you
are expecting big dollars for any meteorite.
  I purchased some of the
Aubrite-which-later-turned-out-to-be-a-Paleo? EL???
This meteorite and its classification has not been
haggled out between all of the researchers involved.
I don`t know IF your meteorite is unique or a
fragment of this same above mentioned meteorite. Do
you know for certain; IF so I apologize.
Collectors need some degree of advice because many
times the dealers hold all of the cards closely and in
the long run it hurts the community in terms of
integrity.
I sent no message to your eBay customer on eBay and
obviously I will be thanked for saving him/her a great
learning expense. I have know idea who icedance is
and I don`t actively watch eBay unless a dealer posts
an AD on this list.
Time will teach you that I have no malice towards
you Matteo or malice against anyone on this list.

If you grew up with Native Americans then you know better than to use the
equivalent of
the 'N' word when 'jesting'. Perhaps jesting was your intent, but it was not
the
outcome. You have made your position clear. So have I. I challenge you to go
to any
reservation and use the same language you used on this list. See what happens.

2007-01-01 Thread Michael Farmer
THIS IS NOT an AUBRITE! It is a piece of the paleo E3
meteorite. There are HUNDREDS of KILOS of it in
Morocco. Anyone coming to Tucson will see HUNDREDS of
kilos of it. In fact, tomorrow I will be listing an ~8
kilo piece on ebay starting at one cent.
If you buy it and are told it is an Aubrite, you are
being lied to.
