Re: [meteorite-list] AD Mali IMB/ Mike Bandli

2008-01-13 Thread Matthias Bärmann

Hi Andi, list, -

these are great pieces indeed, compliments. As a proud owner of an Erg
Chergach (prov.) 13.3 gm full slice I can confirm that this IM material is
both utmost interesting and extremely esthetical.

Question to the connaiseurs of this fall (find): is it possible to estimate
how many percent of the total mass are IMB?

All best,

Matthias Baermann

Sorry List for using this for private massage,
But I'm still blocked to all comcast.net addresses, perhaps one of the

how to stop this ban.

Mike Bandli, the ordered slice is on hold for you, I can read your mails,
but I'm not able to answer, perhaps you are able to provide an alternative
e

mai adress?

Thanks Mike,
Sorry List

Hi List,

even so many interesting ADs has been posted today, I try my luck and
would

like
to announce full slices and end-cuts from Mali IMB ( impact melt breccia)

small crump end cuts of this breathtaking IMB has been sold on ebay for
10-15 $/g the last weeks. Here I offer full slices at 8 $/g and crusted
endcuts at 6$/g . The slices (and endcuts) are not grinded, for two
reasons,

first ,they are fragile, second ,it would reduce the contrast between the
light Chondritic areas and the dark melt.
So it might be possible you will find small sawing marks on the specimens.

If you more like complete specimens with the strange IMB lithologi, even
visible at the surface, I have put a link at the end of this mail to a
running ebay auction. I will for sure not cut this beauty ,I think it's
more
for a sophisticated collection, than for slicing up. Anyway, if you are
able
to butcher this beauty, uhuhuaa bad boy !, you should be able to double
your

investion in a view weeks.

Thanks for looking

In some Native American systems, the thunder from

This post has gotten me to considering the subject in

These had a substantial entry path through the
atmosphere. Anybody want to try to break it out?

Deafness can also be caused by large explosions, such
as large impact. As a parallel example, it appears
that the people deafened by the explosion of Thera

pottery.

2008-01-13 Thread Bob Loeffler
Hi all,

Thanks for the heart-felt replies to my query. I knew my question would
evoke the true feelings of collectors out there. :-) Even though I need
some classification in my life (and in my collections), I do see all of your
points. And no, I don't do Beanie Babies and Pokemon. :-) I have a
mineral collection and now a meteorite collection (and used to have a coin
collection when I was a kid), so I do like specific items. My girlfriend
and I will be digging for topaz or aquamarine crystals in Colorado and I'm
just looking for good crystalline specimens, while my girlfriend will pick
up a chunk of granite and think it's cool (although she also likes the
crystalline specimens). Everyone is different and that's what makes us
individuals (like meteorites).

Thanks again for sharing your opinions and thoughts about unclassified NWAs.
I really do appreciate it.

Regards,

Bob

NORTON O.R. (2001) Ugly Ducklings of the desert
(Meteorite Mag., August 2001, Vol. 7-3, pp. 22-23):

None of the meteorites had fusion crusts. Most were severely fractured, some
broken
in pieces along fracture lines allowing for the entrance of terrestrial
contaminants. The
interiors were stained brown from iron oxide. But I kept telling myself that
it didn't
matter their condition. These ugly ducklings are, after all, real
meteorites...Off they
went to the thin section maker. When they returned and I had my first look
at their

taken place. These ordinary chondrites were every bit as beautiful and

any chondrites I have examined through the years. I was moved by the fact
that I was
the first to peer into the interiors of these asteroid chps. Wonderful
discoveries abound
in these sections. The textural variations are so great that the explorer is
guaranteed
to see structures never before seen by anyone. Herein lies the beauty of
these ugly

[meteorite-list] Cleaning Campo del Cielos

2008-01-13 Thread Pete Pete

Greetings, List,
Some advice, please!

I have several Campo specimens, and all but two are very stable, even with lots
of handling.
Actually, the unstable ones are handled the least, due to their size.
Not severe, but a coating of rust, and some flecks coming off when handled.
The two oxidizing happen to be uncut.

All are stored in the same place.

Can I use a wire brush to clean them?

If so, what is the choice metal brush the pros use? Is a standard auto-body
brush harmless? I found out the hard way that using a brush of brass-wire (on
wrought iron) leaves a golden hue behind.

Cheers,
Pete

Dear Pete Pete,
Perhaps a few suggestions are in order here to be sure you are
eternally happy with you big Campo. They have water in them and until that
moisture is removed you will have corrosion, flaking exterior crust,
internal rust blooming to the surface. Read the November issue of
Meteorite. This is what I do in my laboratory. The answer is in proper
processing in a vacuum. I'm ready to help you if you like. I'll be in

The pieces for sale weigh 36.4, 27.1 and 23.1 grams respectively. All of them
have black shock veins, the largest one also fusion crust (I can send you
usable fotos to let you judge yourself).

If you are interested, don't hesitate to send me a private email for the
prices, payment and shipping conditions. I am german citizen, but live in Peru
currently.

Subject: [meteorite-list] AD Mali IMB

Hi List,

even so many interesting ADs has been posted today, I try my luck and
would

like
to announce full slices and end-cuts from Mali IMB ( impact melt breccia)

small crump end cuts of this breathtaking IMB has been sold on ebay for
10-15 $/g the last weeks.

Andi
