[meteorite-list] [IMCA] A Feeling Of Shame

2008-07-26 Thread valparint
Don,

Is there some other, perhaps more appropriate, list you can use to vent
your political views?

How about sending an email to Lil' Bush and the other right-wing
Republicans that would rather see families bankrupted than doing
something constructive about health care in this country.

Paul,

I think you'll find that Don's type of post is perfectly acceptable to the
majority on this list as long as it is against President Bush and the
current administration. Try writing a similar post against Barack Obama and
just watch the fireworks.

Greg, you are indeed right, Bush has driven this country into the toilet, more

Mike,

In your post to me, *you* didn't keep silent, did you, Mike? Nope, you
confirmed what I wrote to Paul. You once again bashed Bush (while
dishonestly failing to even mention the dismal ratings of the Democratic
controlled Congress - 9% approval) on a list devoted to METEORITES. I
couldn't care less about your ignorant political proclamations.
I'd be more than happy to talk about meteorites, and *only* meteorites,
if others like you would do the same. But until then

Really, why don´t you take a vaction to Acapulco. Life is too short.
Get a new attitude. If you enjoy venting about such crap, it could be
time for a vacation and to turn off the TV and late night talk shows.
Or a meteorite chase in Southern Chile. Why hasn´t it been mentioned
the new fall there... The world is still a wonderful place. I heard
most Americans just got $600 free from the Tax Man thanks to everyone´s
favorite ...(I´m tongue-tied for an appropriate name call). Sounds
like serious meteorite money to me from out of the blue, if you don´t
take that sorely needed vacation.

Best wishes from latitude 13.5 north and the Pacific :-)

NOAA Open Letter to Google Lunar X PRIZE Participants
July 24, 2008 at 1:55 pm | In Space Law |

by P.J. Blount with the blog faculty

NOAA has issued an open letter to Google X Prize Participants on its licensing
regime (hat tip The Launch Pad):

Dear Google Lunar X PRIZE Participant:

As part of your effort to win the Google Lunar X PRIZE, will your entry or any
related facilities be capable of actively or passively sensing the Earth’s
surface, including
bodies of water, from space by making use of the properties of the
electromagnetic waves emitted, reflected, or diffracted by the sensed objects?

If so, and if your team is based wholly or partially in the USA, you may need to
apply for a license from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration
(NOAA). This is because Land Remote Sensing Policy Act of 1992 and its
implementing regulations require any person subject to the jurisdiction or
control of the United States who operates or proposes to operate a private
remote sensing space system that images the Earth, and/or establishes
substantial connections with the United States regarding the operation of such a
system to obtain a license from NOAA.

If you think this may apply to your team, NOAA strongly encourages you to
contact us for a non-binding consultation at:
Email: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Phone: 301-713-2024 ext 213/202

Obtaining a license can take up to 120 days once application is received by
NOAA.

Should you wish to review the regulations, found at 15 CFR Part 960, describing
NOAA’s licensing and regulation of such systems, they are available online at:
http://www.licensing.noaa.gov/reference.html.

Re: [meteorite-list] SALE

2008-07-26 Thread Michael L Blood
Today I offer a unique auction for list members. I have a
large, oriented NWA meteorite (Partially identified by Ted Bunch
as a common chondrite - it had been sold to me as an Enstatite,
but I knew that was unlikely at the time, but figured it was worth
more than the asking price, regardless.
I will accept bids over 13c/g starting now and ending Monday at
Midnight PDT. This is a terrific price as at the last Tucson Show the
African dealers were asking $1/g for anything approaching a whole
stone - and those had more of a desert varnish than FC.

This piece weighs 4,600g and is clearly oriented.

It has a fully Fusion Crusted top and sides and a flat bottom that
is coated with what I would swear is that red caliche on the bottoms
Of Millbillilli and Camel Donga - but of course, it is not Australian.

Photos of 5 angles can be seen at the following URLs:

SIDE:

END:

http://www.michaelbloodmeteorites.com/Enstatite3W.jpg

OTHER SIDE: (see hand holding specimen)

TOP:

http://www.michaelbloodmeteorites.com/Enstatite1W.jpg

DISCOLORED BOTTOM:

http://www.michaelbloodmeteorites.com/Enstatite4W.jpg

Please email me off list and remove [meteorite-list] from
The subject box if you want to be sure I get it (I do not always
Read ALL list posts).
Put in a bid - even a low one might take this. If so, I will be
Kicking myself in the butt for years, but I need cash NOW.
Winning bid must be at least $25 over any earlier bid to be counted.
Shipping will be actual cost and can be paid after shipping.
Thanks, Michael

 Hi Ruben,
If I knew what an of topic was..
If you meant to say I had posted OFF
 topic, well, that
crappola to which I referred had been an ongoing topic for
 many
 Posts.
If you don't want it to end here, I am sure you
 won't.
There may be others that feel the same way, and y'all
 can
Just post until hell freezes over, but don't be
 surprised when
Some people start to post that they are leaving the list
 and
Art starts dropping an ax on the worst offenders. But hay,
have a field day if that's what does it for you.
 Best wishes, Michael

This partnership enables Nasa to provide a vast collection of imagery from one

Shana Dale Nasa

Nasa is to make its huge collection of historic photographs, film and video
available to the public for the first time.

A partnership with the non-profit Internet Archive will see 21 major Nasa
imagery collections merged into a single searchable online resource. The Nasa
Images website is expected to go live this week.

The launch is the first step in a five-year partnership that will add millions
of images and thousands of hours of video and audio content, with enhanced
search and viewing capabilities and new user features.

Over time, the integration of Nasaimages.org will become more seamless and
comprehensive with the main Nasa site.

This partnership enables Nasa to provide a vast collection of imagery from one
searchable source, unlocking a new treasure trove for students, historians,
enthusiasts and researchers, said Nasa deputy administrator Shana Dale.

This new resource also will enable the agency to digitise and preserve
historical content now not available on the internet for future generations.

The content of the site covers all the diverse activities of America's space
programme, including imagery from the Apollo missions, Hubble Space Telescope
views of the universe and experimental aircraft past and present.
