Re: [meteorite-list] Were there any fireballs near LA on Dec 1st?

2010-12-11 Thread Marco Langbroek

The TMZ video wouldn't play for me but there is a version of the video here:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G4C4J1xj1w8

To me it looks like a sunlit aircraft + short contrail. On the video, I even
think I can actually hear an aircraft sound. In addition, the spectators in the
video say Planes! and There is two of them. Did they collide?.

- Marco

It is not an Iridium flare, although it the right time of day for it. It
appears to have an elongated tail, so it isn't an orbital reflection off another
low orbit satellite. You might check decay predictions for the day IF you know
the location and exact time.

[meteorite-list] AD: ENSISHEIM, Tabor, L'Aigle, Barbotan, Abee, Siena, SYLACAUGA, Orgueil, St. Louis, Fisher, Tagish Lake, New Concord, Lost City much more ending on eBay!

2010-12-11 Thread Shawn Alan
Hello Listers,

I have some great historic meteorites ending soon on eBay. If you have been
looking for those high end meteorites, look no further. I have meteorites from
the 1400's all the way up to 2008, all with great historic pasts and scientific
importance. If your looking for the first dated fall from 1492, or the greatest
Hoax meteorite, which is also one of the rarest meteorites. But that's not all,
I have many world class meteorites to offer with world class stories, from Mrs
Hodges Sylacauga, L' Aigle, St. Louis, to Almahat Sitta aka 2008 TC3. A
meteorite is a meteorite, but a meteorite with a history and legacy, will
always add aura to your meteorite collection and value. Please take a look and
if you have any questions please contact me and ill get back to you.

[meteorite-list] Video of UK fireball

2010-12-11 Thread e-mail ensoramanda
Hi All,

Video of the fireball over the UK on Wed eve.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QQpL12tYPrw

Reports seem to suggest so far that it started above the Eastern
Yorkshire coast and travelled at a low angle towards the west with a
final detonation and fragmentation over the pennines. If this did drop
meteorites they are likely in the Irish sea but coastal regions from
Liverpool down to N Wales may be a possibility.

God reports and analysis here from Alastair McBeath.

http://www.popastro.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=14888

Fingers crossed for leaky roof reports!

Graham

[meteorite-list] Discussion of green ball lightening, electrophorenic sound

2010-12-11 Thread E.P. Grondine
Hello everyone-

I think that more than a few of you here might be interested in this bit:

http://cosmictusk.com/unclassified-dr-edward-teller-and-the-anomalous-nature-of-green-fireballs#more-2441

I can't vouch for the source, but this bit of information smells good to me: It
appears that LaPaz used his work on Japanese aerial mines in WW2 to drive
Nininger into the ground.

Oh well.

PS - Geoff, Steve, I think that the Discovery folks could probably make me

Re: [meteorite-list] Cheimgau dead

2010-12-11 Thread E.P. Grondine
Hi Paul -

The myth of Phaethon appears to precede Cheimgau by several centuries.

Along the same lines, Sumerian impact traditions were explored by me many years
ago:
http://abob.libs.uga.edu/bobk/ccc/cc041702.html

That said, what produced the Cheimgau features are still under discussion, as
are the YD events.

If you want dead, try the mammoths and mastodons and some 41 other species.

Now that's dead for you.

Man and Impact in the Americas

PS - oh yeah, I know about that arctic island survival of pygmy mammoth -
anything else you want to bring up?

2010-12-11 Thread Impactika
Great find Arlene!
You had 2 great guides (lets not forget Brix!) but you are still the one
who found the newest Nevada meteorite.

And,
I have the newest Arizonian.
No, I was not in Arizona, and I really don't hunt, but this one was
actually found by Dr. Laurence Garvie from ASU. So yes, of course, it has
alredy
been classified, and it is an L6, and it will soon show up on the Met.
Database under the name of Chandler. Very nice crusted smallish stone, only
305g.
Thank you Laurence.

And, Guys, if the scientists are now doing their own hunting, you have some
very heavy competition!! ;-)
