Re: [meteorite-list] (no subject)

2017-01-25 Thread Doug Ross via Meteorite-list
Hi Doug,

Here is a link to the original paper:

http://www.nature.com/articles/s41550-016-0035

"Our data show that the meteorite flux has varied over geological time as
asteroid disruptions create new fragment populations that then slowly fade away
from collisional and dynamical evolution. The current flux favours disruption
events that are larger, younger and/or highly efficient at delivering material
to Earth."

Cheers from the “other” Doug,

Doug Ross

[meteorite-list] Ensisheim 2017 news

2017-01-25 Thread Zelimir Gabelica via Meteorite-list
Dear Meteorite-Central List, IMCA members and all meteorite friends,

As already announced last November in the Munich show and as it is now
advertised in the latest issue of the “Lapis” journal, the 2017 Ensisheim
meteorite show will be organized on the same basis as last year, under the
auspices of the recently created “Association of Friends of the Ensisheim
Meteorite”, supported by the “City of Ensisheim” and of the “Ensisheim
Federation of Associations”.
Our new Association will be officially recognized and registered on February
7th this year. Its renewed staff composition and tasks will be detailed in a
forthcoming post.

Several people had already applied for table reservations for the 2017
meteorite show edition. They should be aware that I had duly noted their
reservations. However, because of the recent computer problems, I lost quite a
lot e-mail info that I am now progressively trying to recover. Their mails will
be therefore acknowledged and reservations confirmed progressively from now on.

I also already received a couple of requests from people who never attended our
shows in the past. By principle they are always very welcome to rent tables
regardless of their origin or function and we always tried to make sure they
obtain full satisfaction.
Nonetheless, it was always our policy that all past dealers/guests have full
priority to reserve their last year table(s). Those who did not come in 2016
had lost their priority and should also be considered as “newcomers”.

Even if we are confident that all the newcomers could obtain table(s), I must
again urgently ask all our 2016 guests to CONFIRM or CANCEL AS SOON AS POSSIBLE
their reservations for 2017.
Just e-mail me a couple of words and confirm your table(s).
I insist that if you can’t make it this year, you should notify me that you
wish to cancel. This is very important and absolutely needed for me to readily
attribute tables to those who are on the waiting list.

The organizers will attribute to our last year guests their tables on their
regular location, with the inevitable possibility to propose minor changes or
slight table shifting. These rearrangements will be notified to them in due
course.
The layout of places for the newcomers within any of the 3 halls will be
achieved in the most appropriate way so as to satisfy their requests the best
possible and take into account the space availability.
Note that the 3 halls are all equivalent, as the public must inevitably walk
through all of them.
Contrary to the regular exhibitors, tables for newcomers are attributed on a
“first come, first served” basis.

All the 58 tables are equal in size (160 x 80 cm).
Price per table as in 2016: (1 table = 170 euro; 2 tables = 320 euro; 3 tables
= 450 euro; 4 tables = 600 euro….).
Payment instructions will be adjusted by the new treasurer and specified later.
For table reservation, just e-mail me. (zelimir.gabel...@uha.fr)

The dealers and their assistants must wear their badges (or ask for, at the
reception desk).
Badges are attributed on the following basis: 1 table reserved = 1 or 2 badges
attributed; 2 tables, up to 3 badges; 3 tables, up to 4 badges, 4 tables, up to
5 badges etc

I’ll need very soon the full names and the country of origin of all the dealers
and their assistants, so we can prepare the corresponding badges in time.
People without badges are not considered as dealers, can’t occupy tables, nor
are allowed to sell meteorites elsewhere within the buildings or on the Regency
square.

Some more details about the 2017 show

The place (Regency Palace in Ensisheim), the dates (the week preceding the Ste
Marie show, namely from Friday June 16 to Sunday June 18, 2017), as well as the
usual hall table arrangements, remain unchanged.

Opening hours:
Friday: “dealer’s day” (table set up, exclusively open to dealers with badges)
Saturday: 9:30-18:30 public day (dealer’s access to the rooms possible from
7:30).
Sunday: 9:30-16:30 public day (dealer’s access to the rooms possible from 8.00)

Further details on accommodation, maps and traveling indications, hotel list &
reservation possibilities, induction ceremonies, Friday dinner party etc… will
be provided on the official show flyer that will be ready in the weeks to come.

2017 probable show theme (lectures & exhibitions):
“METEORITE FALLS IN THE 21st CENTURY”.
Be ready to bring your best samples of any of the recent falls for a display
within the Regency Museum. There will be votes and honors to be won…

We are warmly welcoming everybody to attend this special 17th meteorite show in
Ensisheim. I am now expecting to receive news from many of you and remain at
your disposal to provide you with any kind of additional information.

Thank you for your interest.

My ever friendly regards to everybody.
(As my computer problems had delayed my regular New Year wishes, a way to be in
time could consist in wishing you all the best for the
