Re: [meteorite-list] Michigan meteorite
Hello All, The story of this Michigan meteorite does fit the generic narrative of a farm-raised meteorite. A noisy arrival. Warm to the touch. Life as a doorstop. All perfectly reasonable, and in fact, expected. The degree of external weathering is possible depending on the iron chemical composition and the storage environment. I'll admit, I wondered about it too, but there are plenty of rusty blobs of Sikhote-Alin around that fell perhaps 10 or more years after this alleged event. https://www.meteorite-times.com/accretion-desk/a-lost-can-of-pristine-sikhote-alin-meteorites/ Either way, it looks like this is a real iron meteorite. And Occam and I would believe the initial story over a transplanted previously known iron. The Roundup, Montana has a similar story but without the fall excitement. Re: [meteorite-list] Stolen Mount Dooling additional
Hi Blake, Maybe cut down the video to a short clip that shows the thieves closely, and then upload that to YouTube and post a link for all of us to reference. We can then go around social media and post links to the clip - viewers can leave comments directly to the page with the clip and you might get some leads. I hope they are caught and/or Blaine gets his specimens back. I forgot to mention that it was the guy in the gray shirt who stole the Sikhote and the guy in the blue shirt stole the Mount Dooling. [meteorite-list] Stolen Mount Dooling
Hi All, I finally went through the video from the show and found the thieves of Blaine's Mount Dooling. Yes there was more than one. 2 rocks were stolen within a minute or so of each other. A Sikote was also stolen just before the Mount Dooling was stolen. Makes me think these guys were working together. I have a video clip of the thefts. It took me a couple hours to find it. If I had been at the show it wouldn't have done any good. The show would have been officially over by the time I found the clip. If you have a video player that can zoom and single step (VLC player works great) you can clearly see them stuffing the rocks into their pockets. Unfortunately the clip is too big to email (25MB). I do have snapshots of the thieves and it would be great if someone could post them on the face book page. Being the video is so clear I'm not worried about one of these guys trying to sue me for defamation:) Blake __ Visit our Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/meteoritecentral and the Archives at http://www.meteorite-list-archives.com Meteorite-list mailing list Meteorite-list@meteoritecentral.com https://pairlist3.pair.net/mailman/listinfo/meteorite-list
