Has anyone heard of " IMPACTITE Monomict breccia"

It's not in the Met Bulletin and when I google it I just get web sites that
are selling it

[meteorite-list] 50mm Sphere Collection - I am at an Impasse

2020-07-05 Thread David Deyarmin via Meteorite-list
Some of you may remember my collection is focused on 50mm meteorite spheres

I started this collection in 2006 and so far I have collected 19 meteorite
spheres and 6 meteorite related spheres

I would like to add to me collection finding suitable material to make a 50
mm sphere has become difficult

Part of my enjoyment is add new specimens to my collection but that does not
look feasible so I am at an impasse

Be patient and hope for additional material to become available, sell the
collection instead of just letting it sit on my shelf and collect dust for
the next 3 decades, let it just sit on my shelf till I die and then donate
it to a museum

Here is a list of what I have, images available if you email me directly:

SIKHOTE ALIN

CAMPO DEL CIELO

[meteorite-list] Looking to Core Bit a HUGE Iron

2018-07-20 Thread David Deyarmin via Meteorite-list
When I first started making the roughs for my 50mm sphere collection I had
a company make me a special core bit so I could drill a 57 pound Campo I
bought from ebay.

The bit worked but it was very labor intensive (it took 2 days to cut though
7.5" of metal) and in the end was not the best way to create a rough.

Looking back I wish I had taken some pictures or video of that event.

I would like to do that again to document the process so if you have a huge
iron you would like to put a 2" hole through email me.

It would have to be an iron that I do not currently have in my collection.

Most are probably asking why anyone would do that to a meteorite.

Well, I ended up selling the 57 pound Campo at a profit because the buyer
planned to use a large wood dowel rod to display it :)

[meteorite-list] Meteorite Processing Services

2018-07-20 Thread David Deyarmin via Meteorite-list
Just wanted to remind the group that I have the equipment to process both
Iron and Stone Meteorites.

I really only do it if the material is something that I have not worked
before and could be a possible candidate for my 50mm Sphere Collection.

If you have a classified meteorite that you need cut up or non-classified
specimen you that you just need windowed I'm available.

[meteorite-list] Am I done Collecting?

2018-07-14 Thread David Deyarmin via Meteorite-list
In 2006 I decided to collect 50mm Meteorite Spheres and the concept of my
collection was to get at least one sphere of each of the commonly known
classifications - the 4 Irons - Fine / Medium / Coarse / Coarsest, the L and
H Chondrites, a Pallasite and a Mesosiderite.

I figured along the way I would stumble across some meteorite related
material that would make an interesting sphere but in the big picture I
figured 25 spheres would be the apex of my collection.

It's been an interesting 12 years and I have been very lucky to have
obtained some of the spheres in my collection.

And with the addition of my H-6, Bondoc Mesosiderite and Sikhote Alin
Spheres I have pretty much fulfilled my original goal.

I guess in the future I will just have to pick meteorites based on a
different criteria.

I would love to add a Carbonaceous chondrite to my collection but I doubt
there is an affordable option.

If anyone has any suggestions please post them but try to remember I'm just
a blue collar worker with a modest budget, however, I do work for material
:)

So if you have something large that you need processed my saws are available
:)

[meteorite-list] Looking for Someone to Etch my 50mm Sikhote Alin Sphere

2018-07-02 Thread David Deyarmin via Meteorite-list
I sent Dmitry 3 sphere roughs last February - Bondoc Mesosiderite, NWA 8529
H6 and Sikhote Alin

I just receive the final sphere which was the SA and the etch was good but I
was hoping to get more contrast but no matter what I do I can't seem to make
it work.

I'm not sure if it is just the nature of this material of the spherical cut
of the granular planes or my lack of experience etching Sikhote Alin

If anyone in the USA is interested in trying to etch it better send an email
to bobad...@ec.rr.com

Of if you have some tip please reply to the post.

Thanks

I have 330 grams of pieces that were cut from my Sphere rough when Dmitry
worked it.

Derek has authorized me to sell them as a whole lot for $1 per gram or $330

Re: [meteorite-list] Think About Selling my Entire 50mm Sphere

2012-03-25 Thread David Deyarmin
Well the estimates were a bit disappointing. The best was $8k - $10k sold
via auction with a huge commission and photography fees that just about take
most of the lower value so that would be futile.

I was thinking that this collection was worth at least $20k but I guess that
was just a pipe dream.

I know that I have time and money invested in this collection that is equal
to or greater then my $20k value and I was hoping the unique nature of the
the collection would contribute to it's value but it seems to be an issue.

Oh well, I guess I'll just have to hold onto them for now.

[meteorite-list] Think About Selling my Entire 50mm Sphere Collection

2012-03-24 Thread David Deyarmin

Some of you may remember me from a couple years ago.

I have a really odd collection that is only comprised of 50mm Spheres. Back
when I started the collection I was really excited about it and I was able
to get 19 different meteorite and meteorite related spheres but then it just
kind of stalled. It became apparent that it would be very difficult and
expensive to expand my collection so I kind of lost interest.

Every once in a while I try to find some new material to make another sphere
but I'm just not as enthusiastic about the collection as I once was.

So I am thinking about selling it. I don't think I would be willing to part
it out, it would be a bit to hard to see part of the collection on my shelf
so I am pretty sure that the only way I would sell it is if someone bought
it as a collection.

I was wondering if anyone on this list would mind helping me determine the
current value of the entire collection

You can view it by pasting this url into your browser
http://home.roadrunner.com/~bobadebt/

The images of the spheres on the web site are not photo shopped to look
perfectly round, the size and shape are as photographed with slight editing
to adjust the lighting and sharpness

I don't mind discussing the collection via the list but I would prefer that
all appraisals of my collection be sent to me via email to
bobad...@ec.rr.com

I know that I have not been around for a while and that is due to many
factors that I would rather not go into but I hope I am not breaking any new
rues by submitting this request.

Thanks in advance

[meteorite-list] Reed Family Project

2009-11-15 Thread David Deyarmin

I hope it is okay to post this.

Below is the story of young police officer that needs our help.

If you are so inclined to send a small donation I will accept them via my
PayPal account at bobad...@ec.rr.com

If you send a donation please put Reed Family Project in the subject line

I tried to set up a separate account with Paypal but there is so much red
tape that it would be very difficult and time consuming. I will withdraw
and deposit all money received into a bank account that was set up for the
this project. Mitchell Village Wachovia in Morehead City is the Bank that
has the account. I will provide full financial accounting updates to this
thread

Thank you.

Here is a copy of the email explain officer Reeds situation.

The Morehead City police department, along with help from the community, is
in the process of helping one of their own officers. This young officer is
in desperate need of our help. In the past two years he has not only lost
his father but his brother, grandmother, uncle, mother and a new born baby,
which passed away in his arms. As losing those loved ones weren't enough he
has yet more to deal with. This young man has a four month old son that
suffers from a severe medical condition. The baby suffers from a stomach
issue that prevents him from eating. He has to have special formula that is
administered thru a feeding tube in the babies' nose. Even with this
formula the baby weighs less then 9 lbs and must be seen by a doctor in
Greenville several times a week. While attempting to deal with the passing
of family members and the caring of loved ones he has had to put some things
on the back burner. One of the things that have been neglected is his home.
He currently lives in a small mobile home with no heat and very little room.
The family has to do their cooking on a hot plate because they have no
stove. His five year old son sleeps in a closet with room enough for a
small bed. When the wind blows one can feel the air pass thru the walls.
On top of the many problems with the living conditions, the family has no
furniture. In fact to put it bluntly the family has nothing. This is where
the police department is trying to help. We have found a newer trailer,
which still needs a small amount of work but is more suitable for the
families needs. But like anything else there are still hurdles that must
be cleared. The biggest of these is money. This is why we are calling on
Gods community to help us meet this need along with the families needs. We
are accepting donations of both monetary and prayer in this effort. We
understand times are tough for everyone but if God lays it on your heart
please help us in this mission.
