There are few groups worth to look
Meteorites (3800 ppl)
Meteorite Hunters, Collectors, and Enthusiasts (6500) by Pat Brown and Jason
Utas

Meteorites, Tektites, Impactites & Ephemera (1700) hold by Mendy !
Meteorite Club (4800) by Alex Folda, John Higgins , Takis Theodossiou
Polandmet Meteorites (1200) my own, worth to look becouse Im very
"multimedia" guy

In fact I dont know why there are so big differences in members.

thats enough to be on-line with latest news
But most peoples are on the same groups posting same things on them all so
You cant miss anything. And You can scroll down the wall, so You can see

useless discusion about Zuckenberg. Email is keeped by Google or Yahoo or
whatever. Anyone think here that Google is blessed by God world friendly

Zuckenberg, Microsoft, or Apple or that evil Amazon. Hey americans, You buy

The more it fragments the less knowledge and 'community' there will be.
The advantage of the metlist is there is pretty much only one metlist,
yes, it's an old school way of doing things, and it rests on people making
the effort to post and contribute.

Facebook does also have massive UI plusses over email, I appreciate people
don't like Suckerberger, but we do sooner or later have to face facts
pretty much no one under 30 these days uses email outside of work!

Cheers,
Mark

If Zuck had his way, we wouldn't have this freedom.

FB invented none of those things and does not have a monopoly (yet) on

website and link to them on this List. One can easily host a live feed
on numerous streaming platforms and link to them here. That is how it
used to be done, before FB came along and sucked all the oxygen out of
the room.

For example, people would upload their Tucson or Ensisheim pics to
Photobucket, Flickr, or their website and then link them here. It just
involves a couple of extra clicks to bypass FB entirely for this
functionality.

My God Michael, dont try to inwent wheel once again. Why You try complicate
everything ?
Yes You can post Your media on site X, I can post media on site Y, Greg can
use Z cloud and post links to them
At the end it will be like we need to go somewhere, ofcourse login to our

On FB its all in one, it work good, it work on every platform and device,
its for free, fast and never dies.
And I completly DONT GIVE A SHIT who own it, what he belives, what he is

illegal on his site. Its a tool like anything else.

There is one big limit. Chinese cant use it becouse its banned in china. But
its not banned in Morocco or Lybia
Can You imagine that I speak with guys from algeria or lybia, they share
photos beying in the same moment in the desert ?
I can speak with like 50 morocans in real-time asking for new pieces, they
ask me for my opinion about their specimens, we chat like good friends even
that I have no idea how they looks like. This is power!! The peoples.

2020-06-14 Thread Marcin Cimala - POLANDMET via Meteorite-list

Hello list
I see there is only discusion about Pictures of the day :) Is this list dead
?
Come to the Facebook peoples, it dont bite. Meteorite group, Polandmet
Meteorites group and many other very valuable groups with alot info about
meteorites and thousand of users.

I have started in Meteorites group discusion that every new classification
should include few photos of specimen. Not in Encyclopedia of Meteorites but
reference photos submited with classification and provided by specimen/main
mass holder.

When Im sending type specimen to the lab I also need to send them few photos
of entire mass wirth scale cube and also photo of cut surface, slice. This
will give every meteorite his "face", idea what is NWA 12123214 and if slice
I just bough look like reference photo.

Every time there is Met Bull update there are many rare specimens but they
stay only as number. Sometimes we can find them on ebay or search name in
Google we can find specimens in someone website. But this really should look
like that ? We have 2020, every morocan in the desert have now smartphone
with high quality camera. I get their photos every hour. Photos of
incredible specimen. But they can be seen only by few of us. Why not for
everyone and forever? Most dealers who submit big ammount of specimens in
Met Bull sell online so it is not a problem to require some representative
photos of specimen or the biggest mass. You dont have good camera ? Whats
the problem? You can find 10 friends with Canon, Nikon or new Iphone to
prepare requested pictures the same as You collect all requested
informations about Your specimen like date of find, TKW, place of find etc.

I realy dont see a problem. This need only some discusion and some good will

[meteorite-list] AD - Libya fall and new website

2019-01-16 Thread Marcin Cimala - POLANDMET via Meteorite-list

Hello
I look here rarely as I live with others in wonderfull Facebook meteorite
universe full of specimen photos, fall news and interesting talks with
friends.

But tooday is a good day to announce two fantastic news.

First is my totaly new website. Its not website anymore, its internet shop.
This was lots of work not only with designing but also transfering specimens
into new place with new photos and new prices :) This is a big change after
18 years with more or less simple website.

https://www.polandmet.com/

Second news is Libya new fall. Well its not new, its 5 months old but still
its latest one. This take a while to locate it and transfer to Morocco.
Tooday I received 8 selected specimens ... well now only 7... at wide size
range so take a look.

https://www.polandmet.com/product-category/1-chondrite/libya-new-fall-l6/
Some say I make wonderfull photos so even if You dont buy anything its worth
to take a deep look into them.

Now I go sleep so dont call me please, especially guyz from Kenya trying to
sell me 2 tons of Sericho.

:D

I've seen ugly fragments on eBay that looked much worse, and they

I wonder if that is the same guy who sent me a dozen pictures this morning,
at least they were not huge pictures. And he wanted to sell a bunch of
Martian meteorites, a white one, a yellow one (8 kilos!), a red one (38
kilos!).

No I did not buy, it went straight to Spam.

Subject: [meteorite-list] Possible that comet will hit mars next year!!!

Has anyone come across this yet...unlikelybut would be quite an event?

Just got this message from my nephew at Oxford Uni...

There is a (admittedly slight) chance that a recently discovered
comet, C/2013 A1 (Siding Spring), might be on a collision course with
Mars in October 2014. Latest observations certainly include an impact
possibility within the range of error.

If it hits, estimates suggest a 500km wide, 2km deep crater arising
from a ~20 Petaton event. That's something like 4 million times the
(estimated) explosive power of the current global nuclear arsenal.

Would be interesting to watch and see if any of the rovers on the
surface manage to survive such an impact (I would imagine only
possibly Curiosity but keeping lines of communication open with it
might prove difficult). Might make for (eventually, but not in our
lifetimes) some interesting future Martian meteorites.

Re: [meteorite-list] Russian Meteor event?

2013-02-15 Thread Marcin Cimala

I'm betting it's an Iron, Personally I don't think there's too much smoke,
(look at the classic Skihote Alin painting for example!)

What is strange is that in quite a few videos of the fireball there seems
to be some odd features what I can only describe as 'puffs of extra fast
smoke' spontaneously appearing almost like mini explosions along the
trajectory as it travels. Maybe these are just shock fronts or water
vapour from the supersonic trail, but ive not seem them before...

Mark

Hmm, but why there is double smoke trail ? Its unusual

Re: [meteorite-list] Ouadangou

2013-02-07 Thread Marcin Cimala
I went back to Burkina Faso and bought more pieces, and sadly all had
either broken on impact or been smashed by the locals. The largest piece
was 2.2 kilograms, 100% crusted individual, which has been hit with a rock
and broke into three pieces which fit back together perfectly. It still
has grass embedded in the crust from impact. That is a very dry area and
none of the pieces ever saw a drop of water on them. I bought over 4
kilograms and Marcin Cimala also got some samples as my meteorite contacts
also sent some out to him:) So much for loyalty in Africa.

Michael Farmer

Hi List and Mike.
I think it was not soo bad as You think it was with africa loyalty. :)
Becouse You bough Ouadangou (Lampiayrie as I called it) in 2003 and I got my
345g in 2004 beetween aprill and june. My samples was propably from someone
who keep them for himsels and later decided to sell to my contact.

Now I need print new labels for my collection specimens

If You want , here are some photos from 2004, enjoy

[meteorite-list] AD - IMILCHIL new iron from Morocco

2013-01-26 Thread Marcin Cimala

Hello List
What I can say, new iron comes up to the light.
Specimens with very nice shapes what is hard to show on photos. Specimen
looks much better in person. Remainds me Mundrabilla or Gibeon when
comparing external surface.

Working on few etches specimens right now.

Enjoy

[meteorite-list] AD NWA 6258 a unique EL Impact Melt Breccia

2012-12-29 Thread Marcin Cimala

Hello list
NWA 6258 comes a long way from 2009 when I see it for the first time. My
first feeling, when I see this meteorite inside was that this is like
Portales Valley. Chondritic or primitive material submerged in iron, lots of
iron.

Last year Dr Irving finished classification and this was second surprize.
Enstatite chondrite type L with that ammount of iron. What a great specimen.

NWA 6258 is EL Impact melt breccia with S6! and only W1. TKW is 1088g but
this include one complete specimen 822g (not yet cut) so except this one,
40g type specimen donated to labs and cut loses I dont have much for sale.
All available specimens are listed on my page. Especially I want recommend
stunning etched full slices with lots of iron and troilite.

Hi All,
I was in communication with Alain the other day as he is putting
Some nice specimens in the Tucson Meteorite Auction. I asked about
His car and he sent me some photos. Very sad. I asked if I could put
Them up on a web site and frefer list members as I am sure he has
Many friends on the list who would want to see them. He responded:
---
Dear Michael

My english is very poor, so Louis make a small resume of my car-jacking in
3

or 4 days . Yes , you can publish my pictures of my burning
car, thank you for support me. Actually it's a part of my personal
collection, not all, but I loose some very rares samples, Louis will
explain

for americans friends what happend. It's very stupid because the gansters
looking for an other dealer with gold and silver and I have the same car
that this dealer!! They burn all the car for no biological traces.
Sincerely

yours.
Alain Carion

I would love to speak a second language as well as Alain speaks
English!

[meteorite-list] New stunning NWA diogenite AD

2012-08-25 Thread Marcin Cimala

Hello List.
New diogenite fell in my hands. This material is totaly incredible. I made
comparison with Johnstown specimen from Kazimierz Mazurek collection and I
must say its extremely difficult to find any differences beetween them.

http://www.polandmet.com/gfx_mc108/000d.jpg
http://www.polandmet.com/gfx_mc108/000e.jpg

Type specimen is alredy in classification so for now it comes with my
personal number. NWA provinsional number should be very soon.

I have prepared slices from my largest specimen 143g so slices offered now
are the biggest available. All slices was polished from both sides so there
are no cheap prepared surfaces. Each slice is 2-3mm thin and all of them
are full slices.

There are also two last slices of my snow-white Eucrite

Dear list members,

After a long time, I've updated my web site with a completely new design
and

some fresh items in the catalogue. There are not so many meteorites in the
catalogue which are really new, almost all pieces came from my
old range of pieces. In the coming weeks and months, I'll present some
newly

classified meteorites with some special sales.
www.meteoriten.com

A further web site is dedicated to the famous Moon and Mars boxes.
www.moonrocks.de

Finally, I would like to present a short film about Morocco regarding
stones and

minerals. You can take a quick look at the fossil workshop in Erfoud,
meteorite hunters, the famous vanadinite mines in Mibladen, fossil mines,
ghost towns deep in the desert, and more. It is filmed in stereoscopic 3d,
below you will find a 3d version in anaglyph mode (with red/cyan glasses)
and a 2d version, enjoy!

2d version:

Re: [meteorite-list] stability of morasko iron

2012-06-21 Thread Marcin Cimala

Good evening list. It has been a while, but Im still around. Hey of all
the well known iron meteorites out there, like
sikhote-alin,campo,mundrabilla,henbury etc. How stable is the morasko
iron? I have never owned one and I am seeing them more available. I
need to know before one comes to chicago. Any help will be
appreciated. Also today I went for my 6 month skin cancer check-up and
I am good for another 6 months. Good feeling to have with the weekend
coming. All I need is a job. Have a great eveing all.
Steve R. Anold, chicago, ill.

Hi Steve
Answering Your question I must say that there are more rumors about rusting
of Morasko than truth. Its not desert iron so as every iron it CAN rust but
it depends of few things. Place of find (sand or mud) and also how it was
prepared and treated after the find. I have several large cut specimens that
dont rust for years. I dont see a reason to be affraid of this meteorite.
Its not ba low quality campo or nantan. If uncut its easy to preserve in
good condition. If cut I rather sugest larger specimens than small
individuals, becouse small rust more often. But this rule is the same to
many other meteorites. This will not change into dust after several months.

Morasko is NOT a ruster.

[meteorite-list] varnish on pallasites

2012-03-27 Thread Marcin Cimala

Hello List
Need help :-(

I have beautifull big slice of Seymchan 1mm thin. I wanted to put it to new
membrane frame toogether with my 2mm Brahin and 1mm Shirokovsky so I start
clean them from oil using acetone.
Unfotunatelly I didn't know that Seymchan was covered with very thin varnish
layer. Acetona damaged varnish so I need to remove it. Now slice dont look
nice as before becouse polishing is not same on whole surface, varnish make
it look super polished.

Im not fan of using such protections on any meteorite so I have no
experience in this topic. I need sugestions how to put thin and clear
varnish layer. I should use normal clear varnish in spray or something else
?

Re: [meteorite-list] varnish on pallasites

2012-03-27 Thread Marcin Cimala

Guyz I know, but there is no possibility to repolish this ultra thin slice,
it will break into pieces.
Its also 10% stable so the only reason to paint it again is to make it
looks perfect polished again.

It looks beautifull
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xvcUAkJkJmM
and now not very spectacular
http://meteoryt.net/ebay/seymchan.jpg
You can see that surface is not polished with the same quality. Still some
varnish in cracks need to be cleaned.

Adam beat me to it. Avoid varnish and sealers like the plague.

My two cents (actual worth may vary) - completely remove all traces of
the varnish. Put a proper polish on the specimen. Then bake it in an
oven for several hours to help purge any residual moisture. In my
experience, Seymchan is stable when prepared properly, so the varnish
was likely a measure of laziness (as Adam said), and not an attempt to
stabilize the specimen by sealing out moisture.

Every time I see a specimen with varnish or polyurethane on it, I cringe.

Best regards,

MikeG

Subject: [meteorite-list] varnish on pallasites

Hello List
Need help :-(

I have beautifull big slice of Seymchan 1mm thin. I wanted to put it to
new
membrane frame toogether with my 2mm Brahin and 1mm Shirokovsky so I
start
clean them from oil using acetone.
Unfotunatelly I didn't know that Seymchan was covered with very thin
varnish
layer. Acetona damaged varnish so I need to remove it. Now slice dont
look
nice as before becouse polishing is not same on whole surface, varnish
make
it look super polished.

Im not fan of using such protections on any meteorite so I have no
experience in this topic. I need sugestions how to put thin and clear
varnish layer. I should use normal clear varnish in spray or something
else
?

Thanks

Re: [meteorite-list] AD: Special: NWA 6659 prov. - Superior Lodranite

2011-11-16 Thread Marcin Cimala

Great specimen, but any photos of entire mass ?
:)

Dear meteorite friends,

in our weekly Special we're able this time to present you a wonderful
dainty: NWA 6659 - a Lodranite!

Lodranites are counted among the absolutely rarest classes a meteorite
collector can have in his cabinet and a meteoricist in his lab.
Currently the Meteorite Bulletin Database accounts for only 32 lodranitic
numbers with a combined weight of 9.39kg (15 of them with 1.14kg yielded
the

Antarctic campaigns of the last 35 years). And 9 numbers not otherwise
specified as belonging to the acapulcoite-lodranite family with 0.33kg
(7 Antarctics) - making the lodranites to a much rarer type than any lunar
meteorite.

Let us say as long-time established meteorite offerers, that it was the
NWA-complex of the recent decade, which brought the lodranites at all in
the

range of the collector and a certain variety of finds into the research
institutes. A check of our global price compilation of the season ten
years
ago only (660 different meteorites, 92 offerers - currently available in
the
German meteorite forum), gives, that the only chance to get a lodranite
was

then to acquire micromounts of Lodran, priced at an average of 38,400$ a
gram and that among the related acapulcoites, the collector had only the
choice between Acapulco (average 1408$/g) and Monument Draw (1016$/g).

Lodranites and acapulcoites share common ground and are generic relatives
from the same parent body, which seems to have had consisted of a CM or
CI-like precursor material. The main differences between these types is
the

lack of plagioclase in the lodranites and the larger grain-sizes than the
acapulcoites display, hence indicating that lodranites underwent during
their melt phase higher temperatures and a different cooling period,
stemming from deeper layers than the acapulcoites.
However, as enigmatic that group perhaps still might be - it are just the
very recent years with these new desert finds, which lead science to
develop
a better understanding of the composition and the complex thermal history
of

the acapulcoite-lodranite parent body.
A perfect overview of the brand-new models and hypotheses you will find on
David Weir's meteorite studies pages.

The perhaps a little provocative title of this Special we chose, because
most lodranitic specimens in our collections are recruited from the large
pairing group, which was revised from ACAP to LOD and where we once all
tried to put the numbers together here on the list (NWA 2565/2714/2866
seqq.)
And we regard NWA 6659 as definitely more comely.
It is better preserved than the old group, which had weathering grades of
W3

and W3-4.
Not only the crystals of NWA 6659 are still relatively fresh-looking - it
has even here and there some metal grains and of course:
Yes - the so highly desired Triple Junctions superabound.

All slices were grinded and polished successively with 6 different grits;
and you find them here:

http://www.chladnis-heirs.com/specials/special-nwa6659.html

Regarding the statistics from above, keeping in mind, that the Great
Desert

Area is coming to an end and emphasizing that we price NWA 6659 at the
lowest edge of the lodranite spectrum, we think, that these specimens are
not only of highest interest for the advanced collector, but would
wholeheartedly commend them as an excellent choice also for the beginning
meteorite enthusiast, as one-and-only specimen for having an perfect
representative, once and for all, of that fascinating and so exceedingly
rare class.

Best regards,

You know, Its the only reasonable explanation (I think), but I never see any

they found this industry slag and turn it into a expensive meteorite just

Re: [meteorite-list] List

2011-08-19 Thread Marcin Cimala
I'm amazed at the old school mentality coming from the people in the
meteorite world.

Hmmm, why so negative? Why so technologically phobic?

Interesting...
Regards,
Eric

Agree...
Sometimes we have a reason to not talk with family members. As we say in
Poland, You look good with family only on photos.
Seriously, I can visit my family, but I cant visit YOU ! But if You share
Your photos, links You like, places You have visit, meteorites You just
purchased its very nice. I can know better meteorite list members. Only
positive vibrations. And You decide what You share with world.

And dont compare FB from 4-5 years ago to present times becouse its
ridiculous. Its like comparing Wright Brothers plane to F-16. Ohh...

Re: [meteorite-list] Shirokovsky

2011-08-19 Thread Marcin Cimala
I guess collecting artifacts has made me leery about fakes. Get caught with
one fake artifact and it will put your entire collection in question. It is
best to get artifacts papered and destroy any that have been killed by an
independent authenticator. I see Shirokovsky as being off topic since it is
not a meteorite and is was only produced in order to defraud honest
collectors out of their hard earned money.

If you want a piece of a recycled old Ford motor block in your collection,
that is your business. To me, it is garbage and so are the people who
produced it!

Adam

=
Adam, from two choices, I whould like to have Shiro + Putorano slices in my
collection, than moskito killed? by meteorite or a big piece of someones
roof with a tiny micromount of his hammer stone. Ofcourse its my choice.
Anyway, if someone can change his car engine into a piece of iron with
Thompson structures after etching I will be interested in a slice too :

If someone questioning Your collection becouse You have some known
meteor-wrongs or meteorite catsts then he must be ignorant who thinks he
know more about collection than this collector. But at the end (I think) we
collecting for Yourself, so other persons opinions are not most importand
for us. (*).

Its my hobby, and I know best what I have in my boxes

(*) in the case if questioning person know not much about meteorites.

Subject: [meteorite-list] Shirokovsky

Hello All,

Shirokovsky is terrestrial, it is a pseudo-meteorite, it is man-made!

- does not contain typical accessory phases of stony-iron meteorites
- accessory phases completely atypical
- Olivine has a terrestrial oxygen isotopic composition
- Pt/Ir ratio similar to that of terrestrial Cu-Ni ore deposits
- has never been in space (noble gases no cosmic component!)
- absence of cosmic-ray tracks corroborates noble gas study results (=
bestätigen)

- Olivine TL spectra similar to terrestrial peridotites

Conclusion: Shirokovsky is manufactured, man-made!

As for its nickel contents, see also the entry in the (online) Met.Bull.

... and, yes, I have a thin 2.7 gr slice of Shirokovsky with translucent
olivines.

I got that pseudo-pallasite in 2003 from Eric Olson. It doesn't pollute my
collection but it sure looks a bit pale-faced when sitting next to a
genuine

pallasite like Esquel, Brenham, Admire, etc.

Cheers,

Bernd

Hi
I tryed this but iron go dark like on this slice. I did not try to etch any
other typical 50/50 Shiro. I choose this one only becouse it have extra
ammount of iron and I expected to see something, but I only found a clear
proof that Shiro is a fake. But who cares :) I like this stuff, its funny.

Hello list.

I am going to buy a piece of this meteor-wrong, but was wondering if
anyone had tried to etch it, and if so, what was the result?

Re: [meteorite-list] Shirokovsky

2011-08-18 Thread Marcin Cimala

Slice was sold, maybe happy buyer is on the list and can check this for You.
For me, the dark area on top is low nickel or even no nickel iron becouse it
goes dark imediatelly I start etch it. Like in industry iron. But the silver
bottom part I think its not melted nickel plates/fragments, becouse they
stay mirror polished and not react with 20% etching solition. For me its the
only reason why acid do nothing to them. But I can be wrong.

I personally do not make nickel tests, I just etch and see what happend.

Thanks for the photo post of the Shiro slice. Did anyone nickel test this
piece? If so, what happened?

I can't believe anybody would reward these fraudsters by purchasing this
fake garbage. A lot of collectors lost thousands of dollars on this material
that probable cost 40 cents a kilogram to produce.

Adam

Oh Adam,
Did You never lost money on fake meteorite, dishonest seller or lunar that
become a earth rock ? Did You never buy Putorano only becouse it looks
fantastic ? I know many persons was dissapointed, but this not change fact
that this material is nice, strange and mysterious and its part of meteorite
history. Anyone who buy it know, its a fake. Their choice.
I love my 1mm thin transparent slice of Shiro same as my 2mm Brahin or
Seymchan.

And in the name of science :), even if its very late here, I etched one of
my endpieces. 30/70% Nitric Acid in alcohol.

For You Michael :)

Iron become dark and very ugly. How its possible if ther should be 20-47 wt%
Ni ?
