[meteorite-list] Ad-Meteorite auctions and Pulse Star 2 detector

2019-08-25 Thread Matt Morgan via Meteorite-list
Good morning
I have many meteorite options ending today including big transparent slice of
Springwater pallasite, new mars and lunars, Vinales, a 10 lb Gibeon and more.
As always I'll be happy to entertain offers away from eBay or on eBay if that's
your preference.

Also offered is my Pulse Star 2 metal detector that's out of this world for
finding deep meteorites. It's in almost new condition and I think you'll find
the price about half of what it retails for.

Thanks
Matt

[meteorite-list] Ad-slice of La Garita, Colorado, Complete NWA 7755, SERICHO, Wells, and others

2018-06-17 Thread Matt Morgan via Meteorite-list
Greetings and Happy Father's Day-
I have a few auctions ending today including a complete 11g NWA 7755 Martian
Lherzolite, some nice cut SERICHO for just over 1/g, Wells TX, and many others.
Feel free to contact me personally for best deals.
Listings are here:

I also have one slice of La Garita, Colorado which is listed as an Ungrouped
iron in the MetBull (https://www.lpi.usra.edu/meteor/metbull.php?code=64460). I
purchased the main mass from the finder a couple of years back. Since the
meteorite is oriented I only cut a couple of slices, this one and another went
to UCLA.
The etch is stunning and the slice weighs 9.42g. Contact me for pics and price.

SHAWNEE, Kan. – A group of local middle school students are lobbying
to change state history. The students with Monticello Trails Middle
School, which is part of the De Soto School District, are headed to
Topeka to argue for an official state rock.

Chris Sprenger, an 8th grade student at the school, is determined to
make the meteorite the official Kansas state rock.

“The meteorite really has a connection with Kansas that it really
doesn’t have with any of the other states in the U.S.,” Sprenger
said.

Sprenger and more than 100 other students in the district pitched the
bill to Representative Brett Hildabrand.

Lobbying for a state rock has challenged the students across the board.
In social studies they’ve learned how bills are passed, in science
they’ve learned about geology and rocks and in communication arts
they’ve spent hours working on their proposal essays.

Aloha Meteorite lovers,

I want to bring your attention to a scam artist out of Singapore. He
contacted me about purchasing meteorites, and after showing him a
selection of specimens, indicated he wanted ten of each specific one by
weight - Red flag #1. He kept trying to increase the order but was not
particularly discriminating on any, it did not seem to matter which
meteorite he wanted - Red flag #2. After we decided on a list of
specimens, he needed a favor from me - ooo, Red flag #3.

It seems he wanted to overcharge his credit card so he could purchase
some furniture from a Mr. Gibson in China. All I have to do is accept
his overcharge of $2000, send the balance to Mr Gibson and keep the
difference. Hmmm, I didn’t fall off any turnip trucks and my snowy dome
seems to contradict his impression of my recent birth.

So this warning is being issued to meteorite dealers, and particularly
ones who sell on ebay or have a web presence. The person goes by the
name of Eric Anderson, but could use another moniker to mask his
identity. The email used wasaus...@gmail.com, but like his name this
could change as well.

Read the write up - it seems to agree that it is indeed a fall.

History: According to Ait Hiba Abdelhad, a fireball was seen in the
afternoon sky on December 16, 2012, several school children saw the
fireball explode and detonations were heard near the village of
Mehaires, Western Sahara. Pieces were recovered approximately 40 miles
south of Mehaires, near Mreïra, Mauritania, only a few days after the
event. The strewn field is in the area called Stailt Omgrain, which
is a local nomadic name. This is south of Mehaires and north of the
mountain Galbe lahmar. Therefore this is a possible fall associated
with the fireball of December 16, 2012.

I understand that the NWA situation is complex, but I believe that
science, not opinion should drive the decision.

Look at the Indian Butte writeup. That is listed as a Fall with less
evidence than Mreira in my opinion.

This excerpt above is basically only the proof that it was a fall.
The lesson here is that NWA documentation needs to be meticulous with
identified individual eyewitnesses that corroborate with anything else
like cameras etc. (e.g. Chelyabinsk). What didn't measure up in this
case, was the anecdotal recovered fresh meteorites 40 miles from an
event that only anonymous school children witnessed. Also, no
documented strewn field was submitted (in situ photos etc.). I suppose
this can be a problem when people want to keep the actual strewn field
location a secret to keep out competing hunters?

No such thing as too much documentation.

2014-02-10 Thread Matt Morgan
No they are typically periglacial landforms, having an ice core . Permafrost
and the ice core can load on liquid water and force the water up into the
center and deform the sediment covering the surface of the landform. They can
be seasonal and multi-generational.

2013-07-27 Thread Matt Morgan
Thanks for mentioning this.
If anybody wants a piece you can contact Matt Morgan or Gary Fujihara. We do

Hi Collectors,

The new fall from Dec 16, 2012 over Mauritania has been approved.

Write-up :

Mreïra25°57.550’N, 10°57.615’W
Tiris Zemmour, Mauritania
Found: Dec 2012
Classification: Ordinary chondrite (L6)

Physical characteristics: The largest single piece weighed 602 grams
and was completely covered with fresh fusion crust. A total of
approximately 6 kg of freshly crusted stones were recovered.

Petrography: (C. Agee, UNM) Microprobe examination of two polished
surfaces shows brecciation and numerous fractured silicate grains,
scattered equilibrated chondrules, shock-melt pockets, kamacite,
troilite, and merrillite. Fresh, vesiculated fusion crust ~200 μm
thick.

Geochemistry: (C. Agee and L. Burkemper, UNM) Olivine Fa24.4±0.2,
Fe/Mn= 47±3, n=8; low-Ca pyroxene Fs20.3±0.1Wo1.5±0.1, Fe/Mn= 28±1,
n=7; plagioclase Ab82.7±2.0An10.4±0.6Or6.8±1.4, n=4.

Classification: Ordinary chondrite (L6), weathering grade (W0), shock
grade (S6)

Specimens: 91.2 g including a fusion-crusted complete stone and a
microprobe mount on deposit at UNM, MtMorgan holds the 602 g main mass
and another 400 g of complete stones, Gary Fujihara holds 335 g of
fusion crusted individuals, the largest being 104 g.

On the serious side, any private collectors or dealers who currently

Here is the one Adam already filled out:

Here is something I didn't expect to see while poking around in the
 online Met Bulletin.

 Link -
http://www.lpi.usra.edu/meteor/MetBullCollectionInfo.php?coll=Vader

Apparently Vader collects meteorites and his collection resides on
the
 Imperial homeworld of Coruscant.

My question is, are obviously fake names accepted into the Bulletin?
Or is this some kind of weird inside joke?

 Best regards,

It just shows how behind the times the United States Postal Service
is.  They raise international shipping costs by %50 after raising it
every year for the last several years.  What are we
getting for these massive increases?  Nothing!

Now packages have to be shipped twice, eBay's way of Band-Aiding a
serious problem!  UPS, FedEx and EMS have been able to track
international packages for over two decades!   It shows when the U.S.
Government oversees an operation like USPS that we can count on extreme
inefficiency.

I would fire the entire board and and tell the replacement  board to
learn something from the private sector!

Hi again list. Just an FYI, the 2 sequel slices I have for trade are
11.5 grams and 17 grams. Not 14 and 16 grams. My scale was set in a
different mode. For that I am sorry. But both are still available.
