For those who may not be aware of the latest: I awoke at a VERY atypical 6:45 AM to a HOT room - got up and closed the bedroom window and went around the house to close the doors windows and turn off the fans which HAD BEEN blowing cool air through the house. This is VERY unusual, as even on the hottest of days, it usually stays cool until at least 7:30 AM. However, I noticed something strange in the sky as I was going around and looked out to see the entire northern half of the sky a DARK, dark cloud but not a cloud...this was clearly a HUGE fire in the north. I turned on the TV and, sure enough, there were multiple fires in the LA back country areas. I went about my business, but as time has gone on, it started raining ash and the sky had become very sci-fi movie looking I checked the news again and fires had broken out ALL AROUND San Diego and the LA fires had already raced this far! Now, what had been 6 homes destroyed at 6:45 AM has become countless homes destroyed, hundreds more in eminent danger, humongus numbers of areas have had REQUIRED evacuation, many freeways and highways have been closed, everyone has been asked to turn off all but one TV and use no electricity or water, as they are needed to fight the fires. I live IN San Diego, so it would have to become one of the greatest national catastrophes on record to burn my home, but thousands are being effected right now and many more are on alert and asked to have all bags packed and ready to evacuate at a moment's notice. So, if you believe in God, your prayers would be appreciated. If you don't, your holding an image of abatement of the fires and safety of home and body in this part of the world would be appreciated. As I look out my office window it is SO strange to see huge snow flake like ashes drifting down, a wind blowing and a truly eerie sky. Michael Blood, I am sorry about the sad news of your email. All Portuguese TV stations have shown images of California burning, on the news. Less than 2 months ago, we had the same problem here: Vast areas of Portugal's forests went up in flames, with terrible consequences to the local wild life and worst, 19 people died, including some brave firemen. Myself and my wife Charmaine echo Marcia Swanson's words to you. May God bless and protect you and your family and all those affected by this terrible fire. There is more in Life than meteorites. It's been hazy here in Pasadena. I was in San Dimas today, which is out closer to the fires, and the sky overhead there is overcast with white. The Sun was shining through with a brilliant orange color. All of the flights from Burbank airport have been cancelled tonight - I suspect from ash and smoke in the upper atmosphere.
