For the love of something, STOP THIS THREAD! I finally
checked my email after 3 days of hunting and no
internet, what do I find 40 or 50 idiotic emails
arguing over nothing.

Hi Johnny,

This list is a great place . You should read the rules and follow them.
You are so lucky I don't run this list. I would throw you off. Grow up, it
is not the meteorite lists fault that you lost on ebay! I am sure many
members of this list are tired of hearing you complain.

I've been using Ebay since 1998. I think I have an idea of how it works and
what makes people buy or not buy an item. You could have taken what I said

RIPOFF stone cold and sober. Dump the flat rate box, find some envelopes and
go first class or what ever the actual costs are.

Seems to me flagging sales could be due to your overcharging for shipping.

Anyways to me it sounds like ebay hates you and they are out to get you.
Save your money and your life forces and do not sell on ebay. I hear Brick
and Mortar sales are a better deal that e-commerce. There is all that
overhead for a lease and utilities and taxes, but at least you can not get
beat down by a SEARCH ENGINE!

Hey Darren,

I charge exactly what it costs me. The $4.05 is the flat rate box and I
can print the label and then drop it off. The $1.00 extra per each item
is for any extra costs over the $4.05 and is clearly stated. Anything over
1 pound including the box is subject to higher fees. Plus I have to
generally
bubble wrap each item individually...not the case with the notes but you
get

the idea.

So I fail to see how any of this violates any eBay policy

Johnny,

Take a pill dude and relax. Whatever issue you had with ebay I can tell you
that whatever you had ahppen was a momentary thing. I have been on ebay for
7 years and thousands of items and never hjad an issue with searches. I
would respectfully suggest you check you work, perhaps you did something
wrong.

And then I would go back and have you read your users agreement with ebay
and also every EULA that you have ever blankly clicked "accept" on as you
install the accompanying software.

NO ONE and I mean no one in this world called the internet/software takes
any responsibility for anything they do write or create. You can not hold
anyone responsibile for anything related to the net.

As for ebay, I highly doubt it is a conspiracy, ebay has way too much to
lose to do anything they could ever get caught at, and everything can be
found out by someone somewhere.

But in case you still think that ebay is up to something I have the number
of a man that used to hang out on a "Grassy Knoll" in Dallas, perhaps
together you can both get to the bottom of ebays conspiracy to prevent
searches.

Thanks

But the point is they are already rich and are now screwing the little

I've sold maybe 500 or more auctions on ebay - and i'm a little guy by

far.

And yet i have never seen the phenomina you mention and i always keyword
search my own listings to see what other comperable stuff is going for.

but let's look at this for a second.
the insertioin fee for a .99$ item is .20$
final value fee for a 10$ item is 5.25% of the closing cost or .53$

so if there is some problem with ebays search engine it's costing them

final

value fees that are two and a half times what they are getting for your
listing fee.

doesnt sound like too logical of a nefarious plot on ebay's part to get

rich

quick by 'stealing' insertion fees.

My last post on this, too. It may be less "ideal" for you to pick different
shipping methods for different items, but it may be what is required if you
actually want to sell the item that you have. If you charge $4.05 to ship an
item that sells for tens or hundreds of dollars and weighs ounces or pounds,
that should reasonably be no big deal to the buyer. But if you charge $4.05 to
ship an item worth a few cents and weighing a couple of grams, then the
potential customer is going to think long and hard about buying it. Who do you
think a seller will buy the item from, even if we assume that both people charge
the same initial price? The person who puts the banknote in an envelope and
charges you 50 cents to mail it, or the person who puts it in a priority mail
box and charges $4.05? It it really "ideal" if the sale goes to the other guy
because of your excessive packaging?

>Please dont suggest I am 'cheating' just because you are bored.

You may not be cheating. But I was buying banknotes on ebay years before I
started buying meteorites, and rest assured that 99.9% of the people that are
charging several dollars to ship a single banknote ARE cheating, and anyone with
experience of cheaters will take one look at your price and assume that you are
in the 99.9% and not the .1%. If you are walking like a duck and quacking like
a duck, how is anyone who doesn't know you supposed to know that you are a guy
wearing a duck suit? RAGE against the DUCK!

2006-07-29 Thread Johnny Rieben

Hello again everybody,

after researching this further it seems the problem
is directly related to eBay store
items that were later moved into
auctions.

As for eBay supposedly caring about this and
wanting to make money...they already have
plenty of money that is the point! When a
corporation gets too big it becomes a monopoly
and could care less about the little mice in it's
maze. Not to mention that they recently
claimed they had to raise the store fees 500% to
cover their server and hosting costs!!!

So it looks to me like they make room on their
servers by randomly booting items from the
search. Or maybe it isnt that random...maybe it
only happens to people with BASIC store
subscriptions. As we all know greed and power go
together and eBay is certainly not immune.

"Absloute power corrupts absolutely!"
(not sure who said that)

Sounds more like a technical problem. I'm sure if Ebay knew
they were losing revenue since they get a certain % of the final sale- you'd
think they would fix it.. By selling low- they lose

Okay Darren last word on this topic.

I ship everything USPS Priority Mail and so do alot of others.
I can print the labels for free and get the boxes for free from USPS.

For someone like me that is ideal and not a bad idea since
the item is more protected by the box and it arrives in 2-3 days.
I dont have to worry about damage or losses and neither do other
people who use priority mail.

It is worth the cost to protect the item and arrive sooner!
Please dont suggest I am 'cheating' just because you are bored.

2006-07-29 Thread Johnny Rieben
Hey Darren,

I charge exactly what it costs me. The $4.05 is the flat rate box and I
can print the label and then drop it off. The $1.00 extra per each item
is for any extra costs over the $4.05 and is clearly stated. Anything over
1 pound including the box is subject to higher fees. Plus I have to
generally
bubble wrap each item individually...not the case with the notes but you get
the idea.

So I fail to see how any of this violates any eBay policy.
And I really fail to see how anyone would ever get rich shipping priority
mail. Anyone who has ordered from me knows I am fair and honest!
Go ahead and order 'Darren' ..you'll get a priority mail box too.

As for the auction items not being listed correctly
It wasnt just the Olivine Diogenites ...the other stuff didnt show up
either!

I just hope it never happens to you as eBay will never help you on the
matter.
It amazes me how a kind warning to others to 'beware' can get all the dander
up them. From now on you are on your own.

Regards,

Johnny

Re: [meteorite-list] Ebay is ripping everybody off at least once! (OT)

2006-07-29 Thread Johnny Rieben
Hello Darren,

I just sent an email a while ago stating why ebay would do this.

1. they are protecting the limited server space for bigger sales
2. they raised store and listing fees saying it 'was costing them more
in hosting than it was worth'.(a clue)
3. they are a monopoly and do not care about the little guys.

Everyone thinks eBay would never turn down money but I say they
wouldin exchange for BIGGER money!

P.S. I do sing it...I also shout it and scream it!

Regards,

Johnny

But the way to become a "higher paying customer" is to have more people see
and
bid on your auctions. Intentionally making people get low closing costs
doesn't
make sense in that context.

Yo Johnny,
First, let me say I regret I cannot see what you and Stan look
like wanna send me a jpg for the Meteorite Friends Page?
Next, here is what I have found re having your auction listed
where it can be found:
1) First, select "Rocks, minerals, meteorites and
tektites" for the category.
2) Secondly, and MOST IMPORTANTLY, put the word, "meteorite"
in the item title box!
If you do this, I find it hard to believe you will not find your
item accordingly. Of course, I could be wrong, my wife often tells
me I am.
Best wishes, Michael

Hello Met-List members,

It saddens me to inform you all of a nefarious problem with eBay.
The majority of you have probably sold items on eBay before and have had
both success and failure. But did you ever wonder why certain sales fail so
miserably? I have come across something that many of you are probably not
aware of and it involves the eBay search function. I have had several very
bad
auctions on ebay where more than half of the items do not sell. I just found
out
today by doing the search functions myself that these items could be found
NOWHERE!!! This is not the first time this has occurred but in the other
instances it was only a few scattered items among 50 or more listings.
I contacted eBay on their ONLY available live-help source which is the chat.
They kept repeating that there was nothing they could do and when I asked
to be connected to someone who could do something they suggested email.
As all this was going on my auctions ended and I lost LOTS of money to low
bids and no bids. Some of my specimens went for .99 and were worth 10 times
that or more.

When your items are unavailable in the search function just minutes before
ending ...that is a true CRIME! The vast majority of bidding is in those
last few
minutes!

Anyway I just thought I would warn you all of what is going on since this
isnt
the first time and I am sure it wont be the last.

If you value your time and money
then you may want to watch your auctions carefully especially in the last
few
hours/minutes. I also believe that these are in a sense 'criminal acts'
since there is
no way to recoup the losses for eBays 'problems'.

Just thought I would let you all know what monopolies like eBay are doing to
their
customers.

Best Regards,

Johnny Rieben

But the point is they are already rich and are now screwing the little
guys because of 'server issues'. They arent trying to get rich off of
this they are trying to protect the server space of higher paying customers!
They would never do this unless they were trying to protect BIGGER
amounts of money than mine. I say RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE!!!

2006-07-29 Thread stan .

As all this was going on my auctions ended and I lost LOTS of money to low
bids and no bids. Some of my specimens went for .99 and were worth 10 times
that or more.

I've sold maybe 500 or more auctions on ebay - and i'm a little guy by far.
And yet i have never seen the phenomina you mention and i always keyword
search my own listings to see what other comperable stuff is going for.

but let's look at this for a second.
the insertioin fee for a .99$ item is .20$
final value fee for a 10$ item is 5.25% of the closing cost or .53$

so if there is some problem with ebays search engine it's costing them final
value fees that are two and a half times what they are getting for your
listing fee.

doesnt sound like too logical of a nefarious plot on ebay's part to get rich
quick by 'stealing' insertion fees.

Never seen that before. Every item that I have wanted to bid on within the
last few minutes was always available, for years now.
However, that doesn't mean that ebay doesn't freeze up, even with seconds
left in a auction which it certainly does.

Just the nature of the net.

Relax Johnny .. Im sure ebay isn't out to get you.
Im sure ebay would want every auction to end in big money.
