Re: [meteorite-list] Meteor Detected 13/14MAY2011 location guess
Hello list: Received this from a contact who has friends near the calculated fall area. Spoke to several people from Creston and Area who have confirmed hearing and seeing the meteor hitting Kootenay Lake... Also they report 2 fireballs back to back... There is possibly one still out there to be found. Chris. Spoke to several people from Creston and Area who have confirmed hearing and seeing the meteor hitting Kootenay Lake... I haven't been following this, but was this at night? If so, then it must have made one heck of a splash to be able to see it hit the lake. Re: [meteorite-list] Meteor Detected 13/14MAY2011 location guess
Hi Chris The weather just broke today here in Eastern Wa. So Iam headed up to Creston to have a look about. In my younger years we did a lot of hang gliding there with the local pilots. I would love to speak to any eye witness that say they saw it plung into the lake. Or saw it there in Creston before dark flight. There was a moon out but I fill that it would be quite hard to see at night unless it was a real monster in size. In that case I bet the sonic boom was a really loud one that raddled a few window panes in the area. I should be there by 3 or 4 this afternoon . My cell is 509-780-8377 Any one else up in the area hunting can contact me if you want to meet up for dinner at the local pub. Dreaming of great finds in B.C. Hi, I completely agree. After spending many years in the field I have started calling them False Witnesses because they are NEVER reliable. If they swear it fell in the lake, surely it is NO WHERE near it. On Wed, May 18, 2011 at 10:08 AM, JoshuaTreeMuseum joshuatreemus...@embarqmail.com wrote: Eyewitnesses are the most unreliable kind. Well that's interesting. There actually is a radar return in that area and at the right time. I had dismissed it as too far south based on initial reports. Hi Shawn, That's a good estimate for the fall location, though I would move your red circle a half diameter north. The bolide did not make it into the U.S., and I'm fairly confident that the ground track passes NNW of Creston (i.e. between Creston and Kootenay Lake.) --Rob -Original Message- From: meteorite-list-boun...@meteoritecentral.com [mailto:meteorite-list-boun...@meteoritecentral.com] On Behalf Of Shawn Alan Sent: Monday, May 16, 2011 1:48 PM To: drtan...@yahoo.com Cc: meteorite-list@meteoritecentral.com Subject: [meteorite-list] Meteor Detected 13/14MAY2011 location guess Hello Listers, From reading and looking over the skycam I took a snap shot from google maps and made a map where I think some meteorites might be.
