Remains of the Yucatan meteorite found in Cuba

HAVANA -- -- Traces of the impact of a cosmic object, that occurred some 65
million years ago, have been found in rocks of Viñales, in the western of Cuba.

Cubavisión International reported that evidence of the impact that made a
crater of 180 Km in diameter in the peninsula of Yucatan, remain near El
Moncada town, Viñales.

The Cuban TV channel said large rocky blocks have been found in the area with
high concentrations of iridium (abundant in meteorites and asteroids) and
deformed quartz, which shows a relation with the disaster that generated a
major explosion that, according to members of the international scientific
community, could have been partially or totally responsible for the extinction
of dinosaurs.

Remains of the meteorite known as Chicxulub, have been also found in the
provinces of Matanzas and Havana.
