[meteorite-list] Question meteoritesaler.com

2011-07-14 Thread Adam Hupe

I tried to contact them but there contact link is not valid. Does anybody know
how to contact the person(s) that run this website:

http://meteoritesaler.com

They have been publishing copyrighted material and some of the closing auction
prices are inaccurately and ridiculously low. I had a customer thinking I was
asking too much, even when offering an item way below wholesale because of this
website. It is hard enough to break even these days and I don't need a site
publishing inaccurate auction results.

Best Regards,

Adam

Re: [meteorite-list] Question meteoritesaler.com

2011-07-14 Thread Galactic Stone Ironworks
Hi Adam,

This looks one of those rapidly thrown-together Wordpress sites. It's
probably not even monitored by a real person. They probably have bots
scanning the web for meteorite tags and reading RSS feeds of websites
to get their prices. This doesn't explain why the prices are wrong,
but the site smells of contrivance to me.

Their network Who-Is info has been cloaked. I would wager that the
same person(s) probably have a dozen or more sites like this that are
geared towards different types of collectibles or auctions.

It is aggravating to see sites like this poaching copyright material
and damaging the market by misquoting prices.

My advice - file a complaint with their webhosting company about
improper use of copyrighted material. A reputable hosting site will
pull the site down for a TOS violation.

The DNS servers are mediatemple.net and the domain name was
purchased through namecheap.com

I can't readily tell who the host is though.

Best regards,

MikeG

Hey, that's my space ball auction! I've seen several sites like this that
publish auction results, usually after the auctions end.

 List,

I have noticed these closing prices as well. I supposed they were posting
shipping costs for some unknown reason.

2011-07-14 Thread Yinan Wang
Unfortunately there's a dozen sites like this, so whenever you an
internet search for a meteorite they pop up if the meteorite happens
to be on ebay.

The reason they do this is because ebay has a referral program, so if
someone clicks on an auction link on one of these sites and wins the
ebay auction, the site owner gets a commission.

Not really a way to fight this if the site owner is well hidden,
unless you have the money to hire lawyers to pursue it.
