Mark, Doug, All. This chicken or egg question does have an obvious answer because it sounds rather logical whether you are a believer in evolution or not. In fact this same obvious answer could be used to explain away a few million similar questions ( other odd things) if you think about it. It is a particularly good answer if you are involved in the very circular argument as evolution. Because it reinforces the argument itself but , in order to be fact in science proof is required. Otherwise it is but a great theory. I am not arguing against evolution per se. Just saying that sometimes it takes more than a good explanation to make things so. As in all circular arguments there are too many possibly wrong assumptions made to begin with so, it is easy to believe the rest. A one degree navigation error at the beginning of a journey can lead to a huge mistake. If for example for whatever reason you believe that meteorites seeded the Earth with life you might lean towards the belief that all odd things came from different meteorites. Oh and there is the god theory as well. Yet another species of a very different circular argument? Why must all scientific theories agree with previous theories? None of us was around back then so it's not like anyone can prove us wrong! Carl wrote: Sir Ernest Rutherford said; All science is either physics or stamp collecting This chicken or egg discussion is clearly stamp collecting. Hi Carl ;-), Are your suggesting that chicken arrived on meteorites, along with its chickenfeed? If I were to adopt your form of arguing (which I am not), Perhaps chondrules are just fossilized chicken poop? Rutherford had to be a real pompous ass to say something like that --- but even if he probably was, you have misinterpreted his meaning. He would consider nearly the entire field of meteoritics stamp collecting, and I speaking for myself thoroughly enjoy stamp collecting as well as chemistry (Chemistry was his real stamp collecting target if you understood the context of the original quote). To generalize a theory like evolution as circular ignores the reality of how every domesticated animal and vegetable got on the dinner plate or farm! It is not only testable; it is applied and practical, though not gospel in a scientific sense. Evolution has been demonstrated and is robustly testable, unlike some of the other questions you try to compare with it by analogizing. You are suggesting that we are begging the question, but the analogy you use itself attempts to make an inaccurate caricature of the scientific method. The use of the Rutherford attributed quote is baloney in its fullest extent - an appeal to a non-existent authority and caricature to the extreme to the efforts of others who are using the scientific method productively. I.e., Some topologists really can tell the their coffee mug from their donut! Orthopyroxene (Fs22.9-24.9Wo1.0; FeO/MnO = 30.8-31.0), pigeonite (Fs28.1-29.1Wo13.4-7.0; FeO/MnO = 22/6-26.0), magnesian olivine (Fa12.9-13.1; FeO/MnO = 40.9-48.5), ferroan olivine (Fa31.0; FeO/MnO = 44.2). One. There is NO missing link between Ape and Man since human ancestry is a brush or shrub, not a tree. Two: Lucy is either ONE of many links between Ape and Man or One Cousin to one link between Ape and Man, of which there are probably dozens of so-called species. If this is confusing, just tell me WHICH of your great- great-great-great-great-great-great-grandparents (numbering 1024) you are descended from? Or is it from ALL of them? For example, if you are a non-African, non-Asian H. sap, you have up to 4% Neanderthal DNA. Is H. sap. descended from H. neanderthalensis? Well, no. On the other hand... Well, yes. Human thinking about blood lines and ancestry is hopelessly corrupted by meaningless notions derived from antiquated tripe, of which the idea of the Missing Link is one. Three: There is no way (absent remarkable recovery of DNA beyond present technology) to prove any potential intermediary form actually IS intermediary except for good judgment. Sterling K. Dear meteorite friends! Once again I need to tell you about a tragedy here in Thailand and I hope that you can help us out. A short time ago, my long-time friend and companion of many Chiang Khan expeditions drowned in the Mekhong river. Mr Tim has left his wife and several children behind, who have now lost the primary breadwinner. Friends of Mr Tim's informed me about the financial crises that the family is in. Mr Tim was a loyal and honest travel companion on many of my expeditions, and we had become good friends. For this reason my wife and I have tried to help Mr Tim's wife and family and have financed a small grocery store. This should help support the family. The total sum we gave towards the store was around Thai Baht 470,000, or around Euro 9,500. We have scrounged up this sum ourselves, even our 4-year- old daughter had to plunder her bank account. To recoup this money, which we now miss dearly, I have decided to sell the last few larger specimens in my collection. Amongst these pieces are two larger Chian Kahn specimens (all the remaining pieces are under 5g). A museum specimen, very unusual, 27.5g. For this exceptional piece I am asking 90 Euro/g. The second item is a 100% crusted, beautifully oriented Chiang Kahn, 63.4g. Here I am asking for 45 Euro/g. Also Offered are the following pieces: * NWA4935, shergottite, 2.956g, partslice * D hofar 310, lunar, 0.352g * NWA4483, lunar, 5.612g, endcut Please see these specimens here: http://fotocenter.aol.de/galleries/zneutronz/ As I have mentioned, we hope to achieve Euro 9,500 with these sales. We trust that you will support us in light of the circumstances of this sale. Thank you so much for your time and consideration, Regards , Oliver IMCA#6131 Oliver Alge Calle Las Artes, Loc. 2 Res. [meteorite-list] Meteorite Sale...Eads, KSU...cut to order.
Hello everyone, A couple of offers The Eads meteorite was found in Kiowa County, Colorado in 1975. One stone was found in a corn field and sold by the finder to Allan Show. This meteorite was classified by Alan Rubin at UCLA at a stone chondrite, H4, S3, W3. Allan Shaw later recovered a couple more stones from the same farmer, and we (Me and fellow Kansas Meteorite Socierty member Jerry Calvert) purchased one from Shaw last year. Currently trying to raise money for a desired (by us) Kansas meteorite. We have about 2 kg. for sale and are willing to cut slices at size request. Eads Sale: 20-49 grams = $3.00 50-99 grams = $2.50 100-499 grams $2.00 500 grams +.e-mail Slices will be cut as close as we can to requested weight and all slices will have crust. A photograph of the Eads meteorite can be viewed here: http://www.meteoritearticles.com/coleads.html Sales of the KSU meteorite started last week. Like most of the meteorites me and Jerry acquire we will be keeping most of it. However, 50 grams has been set aside for resale. (Which is strangely a lot compared to what we have offered on some of our other meteorites...such as Wild Horse or Wichita.) Only 24 grams is left for sale, as every piece I has thus far offered has sold. It is a little pricey at $35.00/g., but being found on a secretary desk as a paperweight, it has a neat story. Also to keep anyone from paying more then $35.00/g I have been using set price auctions on ebay which some seemed to appreciate. Like, Eads, I can cut to order. However, the biggest piece for sale is only a little over 6 grams. (Granted, if I was offered the Willamette for my piece) A photograph of the KSU meteorite can be viewed here: http://www.meteoritearticles.com/coleads.html Me and Jerry also have a few new U.S. meteorites in the works, but we tend to put the meteorite through the system before we mention much about them and I will honor that. Purchased from the finders. I don't think either me or Jerry will go down as great hunters. Wait, I take that back. We are excellent meteorite hunters, we have all our gear. Just a terrible meteorite finders...:-) E-mail questions Clear Skies, Mark Bostick www.meteoritearticles.com __ Meteorite-list mailing list Meteorite-list@meteoritecentral.com http://six.pairlist.net/mailman/listinfo/meteorite-list

Pretty ambiguous wording here Steve. Please explain what Take any two you want, just pay one price means from your point of view. Also, please send or post pictures of your sale items, I like to be able to see what it is I'm buying before I commit. Steve wrote; Hi list.I'll be short.2 for 1 on my meteorite sale.Take any 2 you want, just pay for one price. They are pretty cheap as they are. I have been married twice, the first, a red head, the second, a blonde. Funny thing, I always liked brunettes! I have been divorced from my second wife for over a year now and have not been on a date once, I am forty years old and not as good looking as I was when I was younger! : ( But, anyways, I love having a woman in my life, there are things about women I really enjoy!!! A few months ago, I met a twenty-eight year old brunette that was a real looker (no, not a real hooker) and she liked me. She was perfect!!! It is 2004 so we exchanged email addresses. I look for more than good looks in a women, both of my ex's are quite intelligent, I like that in a woman! Well, after just a few emails, I knew I did not want to date her, she came across as a real dumb S_ _ _ !!! She did not know to put two spaces between sentences (the big bar at bottom center of the key board) and did not use proper grammar. She was probably not dumb, but reading her emails sure gave you that impression! Re: [meteorite-list] meteorite sale
Hi Steve and list, I was just wondering if there is a typo on your sale page? You have a 5 gram fragment of SAU 001 listed for $12 or $2.40 a gram? Last I checked, it sells for 25 cents a gram, some dealers still sell it for $1 gram or at least try to. Just wondering. : ) Thanks, Tom peregrineflier IMCA 6168 http://www.frontiernet.net/~peregrineflier/Peregrineflier.htm - Original Message - From: Steve Arnold, Chicago!!!
