This at least confirms the behavior is expected, thanks for the clarity.
In the mean time, I've got plenty of new things to explore on the 7.3
release - with a pair of two perfectly good X550 Ethernet interfaces to
do it with!

till the CPU fried!).
I've found that some of the Ethernet interfaces aren't seen in ifconfig,
so I suspect there's no driver/support yet. dmesg
