Wireless interface iwn0 becomes detached

I am seeing a periodic and unexplained loss of wireless connection on my Thinkpad. According to ifconfig iwn0, after a period (roughly 30 mins) the DHCP-obtained IP is lost (status: no network, nwid ""), requiring a sh /etc/netstart iwn0 to get a new lease, or less frequently the interface
