I'm experiencing the same issues with an x220 and the latest bios (1.39). Another x220 with an older bios (1.20) works fine. The fan runs at ~2000rpm.
apm not having any effect on real watt usage
I'm using an amd64 snapshot from saturday. I measure power consumed by my desktop using a watt-meter. Before updating i could reduce watt usage with using 'apm -C'. Now there is NO difference regarding watt usage using either 'apm -C' or 'apm -H' or disabling apm completely. The watt-meter always stays around the same number. dmesg is attached. Problem with cwm and tabbed
I encountered a problem either with cwm or tabbeb (http://tools.suckless.org/tabbed/). If I use cwm as my window manager and start tabbed with an XEmbed supported application like xterm, surf or st (e.g. tabbed xterm -into) and then I resize the window of tabbed. Before doing something else with the application inside tabbed I try to close the instance with CTRL+Q (which is inherited from tabbed to close the application). The result is cwm crashing and i'll be greeted by the xdm login window. Unfortunately there is no relevant (imho) output to the Xorg logs. Does the problem exist for others and how can I further debug it?

Unlikely, or it sounds like an early BIOS with interrupt mapping issues. Alternatively you are waiting for improvements in the MCLGETI stuff to as the MP locking situation changes over time. I used the newest BIOS available from the PC-Engines website. As i said i think its my incompetence for configuring it right. It is an interesting machine, highly economical without the ARM complexity. Hope it keeps improving, or that good hardware of the same variety comes from other vendors. Love it or hate it, some platforms are better supported. This is the new vax. If you hate it, write code for the new platforms or shuttup. There is always some sort of status quo... I didn't want to say something bad about the hardware/vendor. The hardware runs perfectly fine and with a preconfigured image like pfSense i had zero issues. Hardware wise everything is recognized in dmesg. The only complain people had was that it runs at around 60-70deg Celsius. They run hot, but seem stable. Laptops don't run at 30C like they did 10 years ago -- thermal envelope expanded and pants became more insulating because people wanted more speed. Noone knows which way the future goes. Keeping in mind the passive cooling solution it's a respectable temperature and even in the warm summer days, as of now i had no problems with too much heat.

Wow, after reading your post i noticed that i assigned the wrong usb port to the _cups user. Everything is working like a charm now. Printer is up in the CUPS interface and configured easily. The team is small and flat out at all times. Video card fan speed temperature
Hello, is it possible to show/change the current fan speed, temperature and clock of my video card? (ATI Radeon HD7770) `sysctl hw` shows sensors of my cpu and north bridge which seem correct. I'm using the 5.5 release. I'm asking because i want to control the fan speed, which is much lower with the proprietary driver for example on linux. Regards
Re: Video card fan speed temperature
Do you mind telling me where to find the power profile in the sources? Or is it not possible at the moment even with changing and recompiling the kernel? There is a temperature sensor on some models but it isn't exposed via the sensors framework at the moment. The code has a notion of profiles as mentioned here: http://xorg.freedesktop.org/wiki/RadeonFeature/#index3h2 The choice of profile isn't exposed to userland currently. Newer upstream versions of the radeon code default to dynamic power control managed by the hardware (dpm) which apparently helps reduce noise quite a bit but that will have to wait until we have newer drm code.

Re: make src libstd++ on -current error
Thanks, STeve, but i mean education process in general. To illustrate my thought, now i _know_ that for making src tree make must be in backwards compatable mode breaked by -j flag. It's not so obvious, and i really don't know where can i get it from. Steps i follow exactly from faq45: #rm -rf /usr/obj/* #cd /usr/src #make obj #cd /usr/src/etc env DESTDIR=/ make distrib-dirs # cd /usr/src # make build ...[output skip] [error] Think, make must ignore mk.conf or just force -B for backwards compatiblity while building src tree. 2010/1/22, STeve Andre' and...@msu.edu: On Friday 22 January 2010 02:16:00 Andrej Elizarov wrote: follow the docs instead of trying to be clever and creating problems you don't know how to solve? hey, how else can i learn some? yeah, you are all not my slaves and so on. Re: make src libstd++ on -current error
Think, make must ignore mk.conf or just force -B for backwards compatiblity while building src tree. where in the documentation, besides make(1), is 'make -j' ever talked about? and did you see make(1) mentions '-j' in it's BUGS section? You are totally right. I did not read documentation carefully, and was confused. Sorry for bothering list.

Now it's ok, i can hear music in WinAmp on remote winbased notebook, getting mod_mp3.m3u from http://my-obsd-powered:8000/. BUT! If i remove any mp3 file from /var/www/music OR(!!) from /music WinAmp did not play this deleted track ([error syncing to mpeg] in winamp playlist). So, it seems mod_mp3 still can operate outside chrooted apache envirenment. Am i right? If so, is it reasonable (and possible?) to patch mod_mp3 for playing music from outside chroot? --- I found this example: mkdir /var/www/music mkdir -p /var/www/var/www cd /var/www/var/www ln -s /var/www/music music But in this case all mp3s must be inside ServerRoot. The other side acknowledges the rejection, then your system sends another request, before either side hangs up. In summary, it seems like the other side is sending config data that pppd isn't configured to like. boot problem. in short
Hi all. I have some situation, my machine will not boot after installing amd64_obsd4.5_stable. amd64, 250G harddrive (first physical). 0. 1 Primary 100G NTFS (WindowsXP), 1 Secondary 100G NTFS (just data) 1. have free 36G at the end of drive. 2. in windows make blank primary partition (with powerquest Partition Manager) at all 36G 3. install obsd in this partition 4. reboot Then BIOS, POST,.. and black screen with blinking cursor. (By the way, there was similiar behavior, when i mount ntfs partition in obsd, and forget umount it. After rebooting got black screen. After mount/umount once again all was correct.) Any ideas how to fix?
Re: boot problem. in short
I try some bootloaders to boot this partition, like MagickBoot and some others (from Hiren's BootCD). Nope. I try reinstall windows - it only copy files to hd, then reboot to continue installation from hd - and again black screen. 2009/6/5 Neal Hogan nealho...@gmail.com On Fri, Jun 5, 2009 at 6:36 AM, Andrej Elizarov vigilan...@gmail.comwrote: Hi all. Re: boot problem. in short
Thanks, i'll try. Just an idea. Signature is already cleared. How can i test it? 2009/6/5 Josh Grosse j...@jggimi.homeip.net I'd written: 4. Install MBR program onto boot drive, preserving repaired MBR table # fdisk -u your boot drive You probably do not want to use OpenBSD's fdisk to rewrite the MBR program, it will clear the NT disk signature.

black screen after random time
Hi all. I have some strange problem, i'll try to describe it. There is HP notebook with obsd and Linux inside. When i work in obsd screen goes to black, but notebook still work and i can type ^C reboot if i was in terminal. One time i work two hours, another - just 15 minutes before this occassion, so it's not a time function imo. Next. When i reboot i got standart HP logo on start up, but turned pale. And after then - where must be grub and so on - is nothing. (I think there IS grub but i can see it). This can be fixed by following next steps: 1. got black screen. 2. turn off notebook by any way. 3. pull-out adapter from notebook (!) 4. turn on and enjoy white HP logo 5. return adapter cable to the jack And. On Linux there is nothing. All work fine, with screen-sleep-state. Any ideas what is it and how to fix? If need any output, just say.
