Re: doas(1) adjustable timeout length

2019-12-19 Thread andrej
Hi Ted,

On the note of accurate documentation; how about adding the actually defined
timeout for persist rather than the "some time"?

Cheers,
Andrej

Re: Fan control not working as intended

2014-10-21 Thread Julian Andrej
I'm experiencing the same issues with an x220 and the latest bios (1.39).
Another x220 with an older bios (1.20) works fine. The fan runs at ~2000rpm.

apm not having any effect on real watt usage

2014-10-12 Thread Julian Andrej
I'm using an amd64 snapshot from saturday.

I measure power consumed by my desktop using a watt-meter.
Before updating i could reduce watt usage with using 'apm -C'.
Now there is NO difference regarding watt usage using either
'apm -C' or 'apm -H' or disabling apm completely. The watt-meter
always stays around the same number.

dmesg is attached.

Problem with cwm and tabbed

2014-08-30 Thread Julian Andrej
I encountered a problem either with cwm or tabbeb
(http://tools.suckless.org/tabbed/). If I use cwm as my window manager
and start tabbed with an XEmbed supported application like xterm, surf
or st (e.g. tabbed xterm -into) and then I resize the window of
tabbed.

Before doing something else with the application inside tabbed I try
to close the instance with CTRL+Q (which is inherited from tabbed to
close the application). The result is cwm crashing and i'll be greeted
by the xdm login window.

Unfortunately there is no relevant (imho) output to the Xorg logs.

Does the problem exist for others and how can I further debug it?

Problem with 5 Button Mouse in X

2014-08-15 Thread Julian Andrej
Hello,

my 5 Button Mouse

uhidev2 at uhub3 port 6 configuration 1 interface 0 Microsoft
Microsoft 5-Button Mouse with IntelliEye(TM) rev 1.10/3.00 addr 5

works, except the side buttons which should respond to button 6 and 7
are giving the signal for button 5 and 4 which correspond to the
scrollwheel.

i've searched the mailing list and tried to use a minimal xorg.conf to
force the xf86-input-mouse. this causes my mouse to not work at all.

I got high numbers of `sysctl kern.netlivelocks`, few thousands in 4-5

fragment counter in `pfctl -s all` was rising. I can't say if thats
 really bad because it was

Also could be a problem with my pf.conf which i didn't investigate

random hangs on the WAN line, that was the main problem.

Home internet connection? Unlikely, or it sounds like an early BIOS
with interrupt mapping issues. Alternatively you are waiting for
improvements in the MCLGETI stuff to as the MP locking situation
 changes over time.

I used the newest BIOS available from the PC-Engines website.
As i said i think its my incompetence for configuring it right.

It is an interesting machine, highly economical without the ARM
complexity. Hope it keeps improving, or that good hardware of the
same variety comes from other vendors. Love it or hate it, some
platforms are better supported. This is the new vax. If you hate it,
write code for the new platforms or shuttup. There is always some
 sort of status quo...

I didn't want to say something bad about the hardware/vendor. The hardware
runs perfectly fine and with a preconfigured image like pfSense i had zero
issues.

Hardware wise everything is recognized in dmesg. The only complain
people had was that it runs at around 60-70deg Celsius.

They run hot, but seem stable. Laptops don't run at 30C like they did
10 years ago -- thermal envelope expanded and pants became more
insulating because people wanted more speed. Noone knows which way
 the future goes.

Keeping in mind the passive cooling solution it's a respectable temperature
and even in the warm summer days, as of now i had no problems with
too much heat.

The 2core/2GB model looks similar in spec and price to the PC Engines APU,
albiet with less LAN ports and possibly a better CPU.

It's quite a bit smaller (99x74 vs 152x152) and has video out, though.

Printer (Canon MP620) attached via USB not working with CUPS

2014-06-29 Thread Julian Andrej
Hello,

i'm trying to configure my printer with CUPS. I connected the printer via

I installed cups and gutenprint, because the printer is supported by

I changed the rights of ulpt0: `chmod 0666 /dev/ulpt0`

Wow, after reading your post i noticed that i assigned the wrong usb port
to the _cups user. Everything is working like a charm now. Printer is up in
the CUPS interface and configured easily.

Thank you!

 Hi

Had similar trouble with an Epson. It was explained to me by the team that
usb printing can go through ulpt or ugen. Though in principle both could be
available, no one has been able to assume the responsibility to make this
always happen. It needs someone with the skill and the will to do so. The
team is small and flat out at all times.

Disable ulpt in the user kernel configurator:

 # config -ef /bsd
 ukc disable ulpt
 ukc quit

The kernel will now rebuild without ulpt.

 # echo chown _cups:_saned /dev/ugen0.* /dev/usb0 /etc/rc.local
 (as suggested in /usr/local/share/doc/pkg-readmes/cups-1.x.xp0)
 # reboot

Now set up through cups as normal

 Good Luck

Video card fan speed temperature

2014-06-21 Thread Julian Andrej
Hello,

is it possible to show/change the current fan speed, temperature and
clock of my video card? (ATI Radeon HD7770)

`sysctl hw` shows sensors of my cpu and north bridge which seem
correct. I'm using the 5.5 release.

I'm asking because i want to control the fan speed, which is much
lower with the proprietary driver for example on linux.

Regards

Do you mind telling me where to find the power profile in the sources?
Or is it not possible at the moment even with changing and recompiling
the kernel?

There is a temperature sensor on some models but it isn't exposed via
the sensors framework at the moment.

The code has a notion of profiles as mentioned here:
 http://xorg.freedesktop.org/wiki/RadeonFeature/#index3h2

The choice of profile isn't exposed to userland currently.

Newer upstream versions of the radeon code default to dynamic
power control managed by the hardware (dpm) which apparently
helps reduce noise quite a bit but that will have to wait until
 we have newer drm code.

Re: make src libstd++ on -current error

2010-01-22 Thread Andrej Elizarov
Thanks, STeve,
but i mean education process in general.

To illustrate my thought, now i _know_ that for making src tree
make must be in backwards compatable mode breaked by -j flag.
It's not so obvious, and i really don't know where can i get it from.

Steps i follow exactly from faq45:

#rm -rf /usr/obj/*
#cd /usr/src
#make obj
#cd /usr/src/etc env DESTDIR=/ make distrib-dirs
# cd /usr/src
# make build
...[output skip]
[error]

Think, make must ignore mk.conf or just force -B for backwards
compatiblity while building src tree.

yeah, you are all not my slaves and so on.

If you are new to OpenBSD, one way to learn would be following the
instructions in the FAQ exactly, to see how to build the various parts
of OpenBSD. Follow them to the letter--they work.

After that you will have a good idea of how things come together.
Then you can study things in more detail, like how the kernel is
built, and the parts of 'user land', ie not the kernel.

Take what are small steps at first to learn the basics.

where in the documentation, besides make(1), is 'make -j' ever talked about?
and did you see make(1) mentions '-j' in it's BUGS section?

You are totally right. I did not read documentation carefully, and was confused.

If it contains noise, then it's a mixer or wiring problem.

If so, could you set to ``off'' all ``inputs.xxx.mute''
controls, set to 255 all inputs.xxx, and check that your
microphone actually works? (you should hear what you're
 saying on the mic).

Already tryied it with two diferent mics, standalone and from wired headset,
nothing comes out .
Both mics works, tested on win powered notebook.

If it works, try one by one all possible values of
 record.source until ``aucat -o file.raw'' produces
 a file with sound.

If it works, does running ``aucat -l'' changes
 anything?

  While playing
  #aucat -e s16le -h raw -i file.raw
has no sound at all, while recording or playing.
If in testing time i had in mplayer new Scrubs episodes (or whatever) i
hear that video volume is slightly decreases while aucat -o file.raw.

you mean volume decreases during ``aucat -i file.raw'' (not
 ``aucat -o file.raw''), right ?

yes, misspelled.

Chromium port [?]

2009-12-08 Thread Andrej Elizarov
Just wonder, does anyone know about Chromium browser port for openbsd?
I had tried it on Windows box and seems it's much faster than FF (in fact,
not Chromium - Chrome based on sources' one).
And google sad that it's ported on freebsd and there floating around patches
specially for openbsd
( like this http://osdir.com/ml/chromium-reviews/2009-11/msg06625.html).
If Chromium performance on obsd will be good, it can be alternative to lazy
firefox.

Does any one except me need this browser? Any one?

Is there analog to linux's PTRACE_PEEKUSER and others in subj?

Is there some FAQ with ptrace calling porting?

Re: PT_PEEKUSER, PT_POKEUSER and PTRACE_SYSCALL

2009-11-15 Thread Andrej Elizarov
well, seems
PT_READ_D = PTRACE_PEEKDATA
PT_WRITE_D = PTRACE_POKEDATA

PTRACE_PEEKUSRReads a word at offset *addr* in the child's *USER* area,
which holds the registers and other information about the process (see
linux/user.h and sys/user.h http://linux.die.net/include/sys/user.h).

from man 2 ptrace:
PT_READ_D - read from data space
PT_READ_I - read from instruction space

If in obsd does not have separate text and data address spaces, this

You're essentially offering web content. Arguably, /var/www is a good
place for that sort of information to be confined to.

If you feel you must plug holes into an essentially sane default, you
can try mounting an NFS export containing the desired files somewhere
within /var/www. See exports(5), mount_nfs(8) and others for more
 information.

I'm not fully sure whether re-mounting exported data from 'localhost'
is a good thing. I have it running at a few places (mainly due to
 earlier poor planning for /var/www/logs).

 Hope this helps,

 Rogier

mod_mp3 bug or wtf

2009-09-21 Thread Andrej Elizarov
Hi all.
I'm trying to setup mod_mp3 in default chrooted Apache.

it work like a charm after this:
#mkdir /music
#mkdir /var/www/music
#cp /from/some/*mp3 /music/
#cp /music/* /var/www/music/
create playlist.txt in /music
#cp /music/playlsit.txt /var/www/music

#cat /var/www/conf/modules/mp3.conf

IfModule mod_mp3.c
Listen 80
Listen 8000
VirtualHost _default_:8000
ServerName *
MP3Engine On
MP3CastName mod_mp3
MP3Genre Sounds of Open Source
MP3PlayList /music/playlist.txt
MP3LimitPlayConnections 5
Timeout 1200
MP3Random Off
MP3DefaultOperation select
/VirtualHost

Option MP3DefaultOperation select make it possible to view list of
directory /music contents and select any track in WinAmp.
Now it's ok, i can hear music in WinAmp on remote winbased notebook, getting
mod_mp3.m3u from http://my-obsd-powered:8000/.

BUT!
If i remove any mp3 file from /var/www/music OR(!!) from /music WinAmp did
not play this deleted track ([error syncing to mpeg] in winamp playlist).
So, it seems mod_mp3 still can operate outside chrooted apache envirenment.

Am i right?

If so, is it reasonable (and possible?) to patch mod_mp3 for playing music
from outside chroot?

---
I found this example:

mkdir /var/www/music
mkdir -p /var/www/var/www
cd /var/www/var/www
ln -s /var/www/music music

But in this case all mp3s must be inside ServerRoot. Not good.

black screen after random time

2009-01-27 Thread Elizarov Andrej
Hi all. I have some strange problem, i'll try to describe it.

There is HP notebook with obsd and Linux inside.

When i work in obsd screen goes to black, but notebook still work and i can
type ^C reboot if i was in terminal. One time i work two hours, another -
just 15 minutes before this occassion, so it's not a time function imo.
Next. When i reboot i got standart HP logo on start up, but turned pale. And
after then - where must be grub and so on - is nothing. (I think there IS
grub but i can see it).

This can be fixed by following next steps:

1. got black screen.

2. turn off notebook by any way.

3. pull-out adapter from notebook (!)

4. turn on and enjoy white HP logo

5. return adapter cable to the jack

And. On Linux there is nothing. All work fine, with screen-sleep-state.

Any ideas what is it and how to fix?

If need any output, just say.
