Ok, i386 boot, at least the install CD boot. Once installed OpenBSD
freeze while booting. Here are the two last line it display :
biomask ef75 netmask ef75 ttymask fff7
mtrr : Pentium Pro MTRR support

Maybe there is a problem with my memory. Would it be dangerous to
disable mtrr[1]? I wouldn't like to burn the only computer I own. ;P

Here is the full dmseg, when booting from the install CD. sd0 is an usb
key I used to record dmesg output.

Does i386 boot? If so, send a dmesg.

help to install OpenBSD/amd64 on a acer aspire 1500

2007-12-21 Thread Mathieu Stumpf
Hello,

OpenBSD/amd64 won't boot on my acer aspire 1500. I found that someone
had the same problem[1] but I didn't find a solution. The laptop
configuration is :
Athlon 64 3200+(2 GHz) ; 512 Mo DDR SDRAM 333 ; HD 60 Go ; screen 15"
SXGA + ; 802.11g, FireWire, 4USB, 1PC-Card, 1 DVD-RW.

As said, this seems to be the same problem that with the acer aspire
1524wlmi[1], here is what I've got when I boot :

CD-ROM: 9F
Loading /4.2/AMD64/CDBOOT
probing: pc0 com0 mem[638k 509M a20=on]
disk: fd0 hd0+* cd0
>> OpenBSD/amd64 CDBOOT 2.00
boot>
booting cd0a:/4.2/amd64/bsd.rd: 2225136+464495+2742160+0+331408 [80
+229320+142471]=0x9dae30
entry point at 0x1001e0 [7205c766, 3404, 24448612, b2c0a304]

So, according to the FAQ[2], I succesfully load MBR and PBR. The problem
occurs when /boot try to load /bsd. You'll notice that unlike what say
the FAQ, the boot process doesn't begin with "Loading..." or
"Loading;..". I suppose that is simply because this is not the i386
version (I didn't find the same documentation for amd64).

I tryed to boot with 3 CD burned from :
  * CD42.iso from /pub/OpenBSD/4.2/amd64
  * install42.iso from /pub/OpenBSD/4.2/amd64
  * install42.iso from /pub/OpenBSD/snapshots/amd64

I also tried to boot with -d, -s and -c. I thought at least -c would
work, since what I understood was that it enables to change things to
load with the kernel. Maybe I just typed something wrong... I wrote
"boot -c", at the boot prompt, is it right?

Well, finaly, it all results in the same freeze.

I tryed to contact the guy who had the (probably) same problem, but it
seems the email his no-longer valid, so I can't ask him if he found a
solution.

So if anyone have any clue of where I should lead my investigations to
find what the problem his, and hopefuly resolve it, that's would be very
kind to help me.

Best regards.
