odd checkout behavior from local cvsync repository

I just wonder if this is unusual or abnormal. For the last few months, my local repository has not been recursively building working directories with checkout. For example: $ echo $CVSROOT /cvs $ cd /tmp $ cvs get -P ports cvs checkout: Updating ports U ports/.cvsignore U ports/INDEX U
