Yes, in recent snapshots and starting with next release they will not be
required any longer. We have solved the issue in a different way that'll
give users more flexibility with regard to how they setup the daemon:

Only two users are required: one for queue, one for the other processes.
By default, we only isolate the queue from the rest of the daemon.

In addition, users will be able to specify the user under which a filter
or a table backend is ran. Instead of having a single filter user, there
will be a free choice to not use one, to use one, or even to use one for
each filter or table.

The choice will become an admin policy.

I'll check with eric, the only thing that has changed with regard to
portable since the previous snapshot was the releng script. Maybe it
stripped something it shouldn't have...
