HP/Dell RAID
Looking to build a couple of production servers, so I was thinking about heading to the local 'recycled' store for off-lease systems. Only problem is, it's really hard to figure out if the RAID controllers are compatible (e.g. Perc 3 vs. OpenBSD Perc 5); can anyone share any recommendations? For example: Dell 16005C (Perc 3 SC), 4600 (Perc 3 DC-128), 600SC (Perc DAT8) Compaq ML350GB (Smart 532), ML370 G4 (Smart 642) TIA, Lee
Re: HP/Dell RAID
Avoid the Adaptec ones which are conveniently also marketed as PERC. Anything = PERC4 should be AMI/LSI based and works. The PERC3 DC/DCL/SC should work too. Again make sure you don't end up with something adaptec (they do have different designations but my memory fails me). Can't comment on the HP stuff since I don't use it. Actually the ami list in the man page is pretty exhaustive. On Mon, Jan 11, 2010 at 11:21:29AM -0600, Marco Peereboom wrote: Avoid the Adaptec ones which are conveniently also marketed as PERC.
