Thanks. I already found and fixed this right after xmms-mad by
grepping the build logs of all XMMS plug-ins for -nostdlib.

As a simple workaround, remove the xmms-mad package and install
 xmms-mp3 instead.

That worked, thanks! (And installing xmms-faad also proved helpful for

xmms-mad and xmms-tremor are of limited interest. As fixed-point
decoders they are useful if your CPU doesn't have floating-point
hardware, i.e., ARM. Otherwise just use xmms-mp3 and xmms-vorbis.

libxmmsmad.so: undefined symbol '__guard_local'

2014-11-26 Thread Maximilian Pichler
Hi,

When starting xmms the following error appears:
xmms:/usr/local/lib/xmms/Input/libxmmsmad.so: undefined symbol '__guard_local'
Cannot load specified object

Then, I cannot open any files or add them to the playlist. No error
message appears, but nothing happens (file doesn't play and its name
isn't shown in the player or in the playlist).

Other players (e.g. parole) do work.

Thanks,

Max

This indicates that that shared object was linked incorrectly. On OpenBSD,
shared objects should be linked using cc -shared and *not* by directly
invoking ld, so that they get the necessary begin and end objects.

If you hit this when using the port or after building the package then you
should report this to the port maintainer and/or po...@openbsd.org

Indeed, I can reproduce this. This plug-in is broken.

As a simple workaround, remove the xmms-mad package and install
xmms-mp3 instead. In fact, there is no good reason to use xmms-mad
at all unless you are on an ARM CPU.
