I agree with your thoughts.
I am using doxygen for a couple of years on my work, but non of my college
including me is using the doxygen output extensively. An up to date IDE gives
the same information when you really need it.
Anyhow, I like the idea of using doxygen

I agree we should have good testing, but having the online docs will be
a huge help. That and the visualizations will also give us clues about
where the worst code interactions are.
