I've found the stars to be very helpful. I fill my iphone with songs that
have no stars. Since about the only interactive thing you can do with music
on an iphone/pod is change the rating - might as well be productive while
out-n-about.
5 - top notch
4 - very good
3 - ok
2 - remix candidate

My usage is pretty much exactly this, no half-stars though. 1 usually means
either delete or I'm only hanging onto this b/c it's part of an album and I
don't want to have only some tracks of a full album.
