I've found the stars to be very helpful. I fill my iphone with songs that have no stars. Since about the only interactive thing you can do with music on an iphone/pod is change the rating - might as well be productive while out-n-about. 5 - top notch 4 - very good 3 - ok 2 - remix candidate 1 -
