I forgot to say, that for a quick test you could use an existing
polygon type for the land polygons. The map would look weird but at
least you could quickly tell if the land/sea interface is good.

You could try generate-sea=polygons but note that you then need a rule
in your polygons file to generate a land polygon. e.g.
natural=land [0x010100 resolution 12]
and a corresponding polygon defined in yo
