However, by default kdenlive generates empty tracks, creating technically
non-standard XML, e.g.:

This happens because you have not specified a profile - so MLT makes up a
profile based on your first producer.

An easy way to learn about profiles is to create a project with a tool like
Kdenlive or Shotcut and then inspect the output.
